About
Please note that Mary Arden's Farm is temporarily closed to the general public. The Farm was the childhood home of Shakespeare's mother, Mary Arden. Today you can experience all the sights, sounds and smells of a working Tudor farm, just as it would have been when Shakespeare was a boy. Watch "Tudors" go about their daily routine, see rare breed animals and explore nature trails. There is a playground for children from 2 upwards, a picnic area and a cafe. Mary Arden's Farm is a working farm that keeps pace with the season so there is always something new to see and do. The Farm is 3 miles from the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon in the village of Wilmcote. There are buses and trains to Wilmcote. The train journey takes 5 minutes and the Farm is a short walk from Wilmcote rail station. It is also a pleasant walk along the canal from the centre of Stratford.

Visited here during a very wet day in September 2019 when it was almost deserted of guests and yet the docents here never wavered on being fun, happy, interactive, knowledgeable and friendly, their passion in their job was refreshing and delightful to see. They were happy to answer questions, make a joke and make us feel warmly welcomed. We never felt as if our experience was cheapened or forgotten because of the lack of other visitors. In fact, we felt that our visit was better on this very wet day than maybe we might have had otherwise. This living museum included, living quarters, kitchen, quills and writing, birds of prey, and the farm animals and beautiful gardens etc. So much more than we expected. Would highly recommend for everyone particularly for young families.

Got the open top bus to Mary Ardens Farm.
Brilliant interactive historical visit we are what you would call a mature couple but we learnt so much on this day out . Watching the actors work the farm was impressive seeing the work they did all those years ago as if it was happening now was fascinating. They ate dinner in front of us and explained so much of how it was in the Tudor times. They really made you believe they were real Tudors and played the part well
We saw the bird of pray show and the chap who did this was amusing and really made it interactive. Can't fault the place well worth a visit.

Very pleased to find them open to the public again, at least at weekends. Arrived there with 4 children and 3 adults at a cost of £60+. The attraction is much reduced, cafe is largely gone, replaced by a table with coffee, tea and snacks. The gift shop has gone. The country walks have gone as have the animals we used to feed. No falconry and only one craft. There are a couple of sheep, a goat and some pigs. Mary Ardens farm now turns out to be Palmers farm, but we were given an enjoyable tour by a lovely lady. A lot more effort required to return it to the standard we used to love!

We visited 17 July with 4 kids aged 8 to 13 and can safely say we all enjoyed it throughout. We booked online that morning saving 10% - £29 odd for the 6 of us which is pretty decent.
It wasn't too busy which helped. Plenty to see and do but be warned, if you like your day visits loud and busy this isn't for you. Arrived at 10am to see horse getting groomed. Falconry displays were great and very interesting. Amazing to see how the Tudors lived day to day, all enacted out pretty convincingly. Afterwards our kids said they'd enjoyed the day more than a certain toy-based resort near Windsor which we'd visited the day before and it restored our faith in the British visitor attraction.
We spent 4 hours there including a break for lunch. You could spend half that time there if you didn't want to wait to see all the events and still come away with something to remember.
Recommended.

We visited here on a really hot day and found there was plenty of shelter with interesting 'Tudor' staff who were very helpful and informative. There is plenty here for families with falconry displays and animals and there is a nice little cafe with outside tables for a day like this.

this is a perfect place to see the daily workings of a Tudor farm with all the sights and smells.
you will be transported back in time and imagine what it was like to have lived in those times.

We visited here 30yrs ago and never forgot some of the things we learned (eg origin of eavesdropping) so, when we visited Stratford again we bought the ‘5 place ‘ ticket and decided to call at Mary Arden’s Farmhouse to see if anything was different. Well, we were amused to find that the Farmhouse itself had changed ... completely; it’s a different building now!! Our wonderful guide, Mistress Sally, explained that in the year 2000 a wall fell down, the timbers were dated - and they discovered that it couldn’t possibly be the girlhood home of William Shakespeare’s mother; it turned out Mary Arden’s Farmhouse was about 50yds further down and was totally different. So we were really glad we went for our trip down memory lane!
Sally was a wonderful guide, making things interesting and fun; well done!

After visiting the disappointing Shakespeare's Birthplace, my expectations wasn't very high. However, Mary Arden's farm was much better, especially the house.
Picturesque, the location has some highlights, such as a water well, apple orchard, and cute donkeys amongst activities and games.
Sadly, the gardens surrounding the house look rather battered and unkempt. It's bad when the houses of neighbours had better flower arrangements I could see for free.
Still a decent walk, but not something I'd return to anytime soon.

This may seem an odd question but are there any snakes on show? Nearly every farm recently has had snakes for some odd reason
Written 23 March 2019
no, this farm doesn't have snakes, it is not that sort of farm, you might see a horse or cow

We would like to visit on Sunday, 29 October and I believe this will be a Halloween weekend. Will the people working on the farm be dressed in the same period clothing as throughout the summer months or will they be in Halloween outfits?

More info for you:- The Tudors will be in their usual Tudor costume but there will be a Halloween theme about the farm eg ghostly things in the wood and pumpkins everywhere. There is pumpkin carving in a marquee and visitors can take them home. It will be our last day of the season.

It opened last weekend, not sure why this website still says it is closed.

How much Is adult entry?
Written 30 August 2016
Hi ,
It's about £13. I think for about £26 you can get the pass that lets you in to 5 venues.

How much is entry for 2 over 60's?
Written 2 August 2016
I don't know what the individual to the farm is. I bought a ticket for all 5 attractions. If you have a 20% off voucher for all 5 Shakespeare's house entrance fees (you can find this on the internet) the price for 2 seniors is £34.64. The ticket lasts a year and is multiple use. If you are travelling by car your best option is to take the park and ride. Parking s £1 and the fare is £2 return.
