I came to Compton Verney with other researchers to take a closer look at the Chinese Ritual Bronzes Collection. This is a restored British aristocracy manor house turned into a museum set in beautiful grounds containing a medieval ice house. The collection includes reinassance paintings, Christian icons, British portraits & folk art, 18th century "British pop art", ceramics, sketches and... More

Visited Compton Verney for an outdoor event which may have been busier than usual for the catering facilities judging by the queues. The staff were working hard but were clearly overwhelmed. Parking is a short walk from the actual gallery. There is tea, coffee and a loo available at the gatehouse where you pay. Then a shortwalk around the lake... More

These stunning exhibitions finish on Sun 10 Dec so do try to visit Compton Verney. The permanent exhibitions and the Capability Brown grounds are also well worth a visit and there are plenty of seasonal things to do for children. The Lawn Restaurant is a great place to eat and there is a Cafe offering lighter meals and sandwiches.

Visited the venue before for exhibitions. Picasso exhibition was really interesting. Lovely laid out and curated. Visited marred by the foulest coffee.

On 29th October I went to the Museums at Night event at Compton Verney. The Compton Verney house was illuminated interactively. There were two control stations were visitors could illuminate the Compton Verney house. It made a fantastic sight. In addition there was an art work with glowing rice in the newly restored chapel. There were other activities that I... More

Went late one Saturday afternoon. Lovely setting in parkland which you can appreciate as you walk from car park. Smart new ticket office. Enjoyed the art work - particularly the European and British Portraits - some real beauties you wouldn't expect. Also you must visit the restored chapel. Too late for the tea room unfortunately. Scary to think the whole... More

This place is an absolute gem. A visit to the grounds and gallery is always enjoyable, but it's definitely worth checking out their programme of special events. I visited recently with a group of friends to enjoy 'In Light', their recent night-time installation/exhibition which saw the beautiful grounds and exterior of the gallery itself illuminated to stunning effect. Quite apart... More

How does Compton Verney do it? After the brilliant Shakespeare in Art exhibition earlier in the year, followed by the exquisitely assembled collection of fifties memorabilia in the Britain in the 50's exhibition, Noe we have enjoyed the superb light show - a fitting tribute to the memory of Capability Brown who designed this fantastic site in his heyday. The... More
