Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Friendly staff and funky clientele. Decent bar prices. However, music so loud that only place we could hear each other and friends was in their ‘inside outside’ to begin with, then the door to downstairs was opened so just as bad.
They need a decent electrician too. The amp for the thumping music blew early on but peace didn’t last long. Then the outside heaters blew too and didn’t come back on. It was cold so we left.
Security outside were friendly but never seen so many of them wandering around aggressively inside. Why? Everyone was well behaved.
Very poor in comparison to the clubs we frequent on Canal Street in Manchester.

Visited here last night with some work friends and the night was going well, we were having a great time. We left the main club and queued up for the downstairs 'after party'. We got in, bought a drink, I finished my drink, put it down and carried on dancing. It was then that two security guards stormed in and told me I had to go with them. They frogmarched me out the club (which was highly embarrassing) and after I was outside they told me I'd been accused by the DJ of throwing a drink over him. I asked to speak to the manager since this wasn't true, and the security guard said he'd get him. No one appeared so I asked another guard who radioed it in, to hear the manager reply with 'I'm too busy with paperwork'. I work on a bar and was with my manager on this night out and we both agreed, no matter the importance of paper work, guest satisfaction should come first. On top of that, I asked if they could check the CCTV and they told me for some reason they couldn't check it until morning. The security guards name was Dom and he was extremely rude to me, talking to me as though I was a child. Because I work in a bar I know exactly how it goes down but to be kicked out for absolutely no reason and refused the right to talk to a higher authority or at least have someone 'prove' what the DJ said with the CCTV was diabolical. Absolutely ruined the night. Needless to say I won't be returning. A shame.

For some reason, the policy of the bar implies discrimination. You should be English. Not coming from Eden bar and preferably not alone.

I have used the Village for over 25 years and have to say the place has gone to the pits , they used to have the friendliest loveliest staff and doorstaff but not anymore , the door staff are disgraceful regularly refusing entry to regulars , accusing people of being drunk when they are not , picking and choosing who they want in and seemingly having issues with anybody over 30. If you do get passed the gormless bulldogs on the door then you are met with sour face rude barstaff who struggle to raise a smile or any manners , when u gey your drink you pay extortionate amounts for warm dirty glasses or bottles , even asking for ice sometimes seems like a chore. The toilets are disgusting haven't been updated for years. The charm of the place has gone , I was here every weekend for years but not anymore and after last night and being refused entry for being "drunk " after I'd had 2 beers all day I don't think I will ever bother wasting another penny in this hovel. The sooner they knock this place down and build even more ugly flats the better , it's blatantly obvious the owners no longer give a damn about the place or its customers.

Last night , several patrons, including myself, were asked to leave the premises, seperatly, within a period of about an hour but not together, under circumstances that left many of us feeling isolated and unsafe. Being unexpectedly removed from the venue without clear communication or support is not just distressing, but also dangerous, especially in today’s climate. For many, your venue is a place where we can be ourselves, and where our safety and well-being should be prioritised.
Using the excuse that people are drunk when they are non drinkers just won’t slide.. door staff are terrible and A place that is supposed to be a safe haven for the LGBTQ+ community, where everyone should feel welcomed and supported, unfortunately, became an environment of vulnerability for several of ud

This is by far the bar with the worst staff on the door in Birmingham! My friend was showing me around the town and said the village is a good place to go. When we arrived, they asked us if we already had anything to drink. I said yes, it was literally a Friday night. Of course we had a drink beforehand!!
They refused us entry for no reason. None of us were drunk, but apparently because we had a drink before we weren’t allowed in?? And it doesn’t seem like I’m the only one by the looks of the reviews here!
I don’t understand why they do this. The village inn has the potential to be a good bar. But the horrible bouncers ruin it. Never coming back again, and I’m telling all my friends to avoid!! The other bars next to the village accepted us with very very nice bouncers!! (Sidewalk for example).

First night out in Birmingham, and decided to go to the Gay Village. Researched online and saw that The village inn had some drag acts on the night we were going. They opened at 7pm which was a decent time. The atmosphere was safe, and the staff were friendly. The drag acts were amazing, brilliant stage presence and the entertainment lasted for around 2 hours. Then it was music until 12am when the next drag queen performed but we left before then. The people were friendly and as a young queer individual I felt safe and accepted to be myself. The bouncers said goodbye as we left and the bar staff smiled. It was a really good night out and they has unisex toilets upstairs which was wonderful for queer individuals.

Really is lovely during pride month to see your staff turn away a gay person at the door because they called out a group of 13 straight men in front of them, who were wasting time in a queue for a casual piss up. I was questioned by your staff for being inconsiderate of their feelings, yet I was stood in a queue being chatted up by the people I try to avoid on a ‘normal’ night out outside a place I deem safe for the gay community. The be all and end all of this was, apparently I was too outspoken because I questioned why these straight men were in a gay quarter, no one had a legit excuse other than they wanted a drink, but yet I was called out and in the end refused entry. I walked away calmly from this venue, but I was also heckled and laughed at by this group of straight men, absolutely diminishing the very fact your bar is meant to stand for, gay people. Thank you, thank you so much for making me feel like this, yes village inn is all inclusive, but you’re also meant to put your gay community first seeing as we are not put first in so SO many other circumstances, your bar staff, specifically the woman, tonight was so uneducated on the matter you need to teach them what you stand for, and that you are there to welcome gay people and when it’s quite clearly 13 straight men turn up on ur door step for a drink you are well within ur right to turn them away just like they can turn many gay people away for being themselves in so many public places.

Been coming to this bar last 12 years, but now since new management it’s not the same at all in many ways. First you don’t feel Wellcome anymore there all they after is your money, 0 customer service on all evening they will inverse the price for drink to double what you paid in a beginning of the night so ripping off front of your eyes. When you try to ask receipt they pretending they cannot hear you and ignoring you. If I would be drink might be I wouldn’t notice anything but especially when I was sorbet I saw everything same as me and others been overcharged double without any reason and serving smaller glass portions. So disgusting place it is now definitely will never go back there anymore and will not recommend if you don’t want to be robbed and served very unprofessional and rude. Shame to new management who let these things happen.

It was my first night out in Birmingham with my cousins. We decided to try out the Gay Village and ended up in The Village Inn. At the beginning of the night, the music was really good and good vibe and company. Then as the night went on, I went to the dance floor and go for a boogie. I am only 4ft10, and the crowd were taking the piss out of my height and kneeling down to their knees pretending to dance the same height as me... I was so mortified and embarassed and felt i was being laughed at. Coming to a community where acceptance is needed for Gay people, they are just as bad as heterosexual people. Bullies.

I went village inn last night as I am a regular and I was kicked out all because someone I was with kept giving me his hat and then someone took it off my head and I then took it from him and gave it back to the owner of it then that guy strangled me then I was the one violently kicked out. They have put me as a regular on a 2 month ban when I never did anything wrong. In my eyes this is totally disgusting. I won’t be going back there again after this 2 month cool down ban
