- kirwanbellKingswinford, United Kingdom7 contributionsRobert Plant and Symphony Hall Birmingham. My wife and I had the best music experience when we attended a show featuring Robert Plant and the Band of Joy at Birmingham Symphony Hall on the 05/11/23. The facilities are excellent and this concert a musical treat. Robert Plant has the most beautiful voice and the music was unbelievably spectacular and moving. Robert Plant has reinvented himself and presents a flawless performance. Love Symphony Hall and have loved Robert Plant for most of my life. Many thanks to both. What a evening!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 November 2023
- timBirmingham, United Kingdom6 contributionsChampagne (top) Experience“Champagne Experience”. Went to see Stewart Lee yesterday - excellent as always. Splashed out, when booking, for a couple of glasses of champagne pre-performance. Warmly welcomed on arrival and the waiter said they’d run out of mini-bottles and asked would I mind a full bottle of champagne all to myself, with ‘free’ bar snacks. They also put it in the chiller for me to polish off during the interval. 5 stars, thanks…!Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 4 February 2024
- Simes1965Camberley, United Kingdom165 contributionsgreat sound, nice venue for a gig.....Lovely venue, booked to see Rick Wakeman here rather than nearer my home in London, spoiled only by the nightmare of getting in and out of Birmingham. Staff friendly, beers are very nice, and queueing minimal, venue is close to restaurants and close to Q car park. Seats a little hard , but sound is good, and great views of the stage no matter where you are sat. Would consider going again, but will check what roadworks are going on in the city.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 February 2024
- cath53Coventry, United Kingdom126 contributionsGood venueMy first trip to the Birmingham Symphony hall with family who really like it. The area around is fascinating, with the striking library building nearby. It was a Saturday night and the town centre is a really buzzing lively place. The Symphony Hall itself is beautiful. Very clean and modern designs, pristine toilets and plenty of staff who were friendly enough. We had seats in ‘the ledge’ which were separate chairs rather than in a row so no standing up to let people in and out. It was a side view which is not quite as good as being in front, but comfortable. An easy 10-15 min walk back to New Street and a nice night out!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 March 2024
- jilll692208 contributionsGiovanni thrills BirminghamOne of the best theatre visits of my life! Show: Giovanni, Lauren and cast including Birmingham’s own Jamie delivered a sensational show. The dancing talent is just astounding! Loved every minute!! Seats: great view from anywhere in stalls. It’s a very large venue with multiple levels but the layout suggests a good view. Bar: organised. Fair range of drinks. Toilets: not enough women’s! Fun fact: theatre is inside the conference centre so food & drink available all day - don’t have to wait for the theatre to open.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 April 2024
- Soleil_rouge25Birmingham, United Kingdom109 contributionsClassical with Suchet - such fun!I’m a regular at Symphony Hall but the Classic FM Hall of Fame with Michael Seal and Tessa Lark on 19 April was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! How lucky and lovely to have John Suchet introducing each piece and the awesome orchestra getting up for our applause every time. It was a night to remember forever, I am booking every single one now. Especially when Michael Seal literally jumped off the conductor’s podium for that last note of Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King!! Loved that! Kudos for the program organisers, great mix of calm, contemplative and fun. Best part was seeing the faces of teenagers light up at the John Williams’ famous tunes. To finish with Holst’s Jupiter just brought me to euphoric tears. Great night, thank you CBSO!Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 21 April 2024
- Nicola_W_0108United Kingdom862 contributions“May the Fourth Be With You!” Great show and venue, however let down by rude staff.Booking tickets online was easy and email information ahead of the show was good. Friendly staff on the doors/checking tickets, however one of the bar staff who served us was rude and very unfriendly. Food & drinks were expensive at £15 just for bottled water, a coffee, some crisps and small pack of biscuits! Decent amount of toilets, but the ladies’ were very tightly packed which made it difficult to manoeuvre around in there and access the hand dryers. We were very pleased with the view from our seats, and the 18-30 tickets were amazing value. However, the individual seats where we sat were fitted, which meant they were very tight if you had large hips/thighs so that was uncomfortable. Aside from that, the show was really good! We attended May the Fourth - A Star Wars Celebration. It was great to hear iconic pieces of music from the world-famous films, played by the extremely talented orchestra and led by an animated conductor. Some cameos from Star Wars characters too. My Mum and brother especially loved the experience as they are lifelong Star Wars fans! It was a shame there were no posters displayed to promote or indicate what the event was as that would have added to the excitement. Felt rushed after the show as staff kept trying to usher us out/saying that we needed to leave because they were closing. We had only popped to the toilets briefly on the way out, so I found this attitude from the staff to be rude, unnecessary and inhospitable! This left a sour taste at the end of a lovely evening. Would definitely return to this venue, however I would hope for more polite staff to be working there on any future visits!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 May 2024
- Alan GLedbury, United Kingdom111 contributionsFirst Time at the Symphony HallWe went to see Alfie Boe and had the Champagne Experience. We thought that it was good value for money and also very enjoyable. The staff weee friendly and helpful and added to the experience. It was in a separate room and perhaps a little more could be done in terms of food or better snacks. It would increase the price but I do believe it would be an improvementVisited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 June 2024

Transportation and Accommodation Transportation: If you're coming from another city, you can buy a Railcard. Most locals use the Oyster card, but I bought a Railcard on TrainPal. Although it's a bit more hassle, it's much cheaper. You can get a 20% discount by entering RC777E on TrainPal. Went to see Marc Almond on 26 October 2022 and we had kept the tickets since they originally went on sale about 18 months ago. The Symphony Hall had the benefit of this interest free loan for all this time.
Shortly before the gig they emailed to say they were "upgrading" our seats due to production reasons.
When we got there we were sat right at the back despite seeing empty seats closer to the stage. Upon enquiry Egon in their customer services told me (as did the lady on the door) that it was not possible for them to move us to seats in a different price point.
My understanding of an "Upgrade" must be different to theirs then and I am tempted to buy then a dictionary. There has been no attempt to offer any compensation for moving our seats to the back and no real apology even.
If this is the level of service you can expect from a premium venue like the Symphony Hall then lord helps us when you go to inferiour venues. The interior and acoustics were supereb its just that Marc Almond was a tiny dot on the horizon and I had to use the zoom on my phone to actually make out it was him.
Beware folks if they say they are going to "Upgrade" you this will probably mean "Downgrade" you in reality!

I visited Symphony Hall this afternoon to watch a Christmas Spectacular. Really disappointed to find that a large proportion of the audience did not wear a mask during the show. There was no enforcement, no announcents reminding the attendees that it is a legal requirement in a theatre.
When the management were challenged afterwards, their response was that they are a 'hospitality' venue, like a pub or restaurant and therefore no masks are required.
Had I walked into a pub, cafe or restaurant and had to sit as close to others without masks, I would have left. I had no choice in Symphony Hall. Theatres have been cribbing about how long they had to be closed, little wonder when they made no effort to ensure safety. Had I not had covid in October, I would have left, as it was, I moved to an uncrowded area after the interval as it seemed other people did indeed leave as there were lots of empty seats.

The acoustics re simply out of this world. I have been here many times, in the last three years with different seatings. Am yet to sit somewhere where I am disappointed by either sound or view. Just go and enjoy the experience. A friend of mine who lives in Berlin, and who is a passionate classical music lover told me about Symphony Hall's amazing acoustics even before I moved to Birmingham, and he has never ever been here. :-o

Last night we went to see Queen Symphonic at this amazing venue. It is modern yet classic, and the acoustics are so good you get great sound wherever you sit. This was our fourth visit and we are already looking forward to the next!
Staff are plentiful and very helpful and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby in Brindley Place for a pre-existing show meal/ drink.

Fantastic venue for a classical concert. Acoustics were amazing, and superb seats overlooking the orchestra. As Broad Street was being dug up, we parked at Broadway Plaza car park at the top of Hagley Road, rather than at Brindley Place - only an 18 minute easy walk from the Symphony Hall, easy to get out, no queuing, and very reasonable price.

Second time visit here and it really is an excellent venue. Plenty of room, comfy seating and excellent acoustics.
We had booked seats to see Dionne Warwick prior the pandemic and in the three years since, her voice had sadly declined to a whisper. A recent op meant she had to sit down but she was clearly uncomfortable. It was a real shame.
We enjoyed the evening however; the backing singers and the band and her son on the drums were all excellent.

We attended the Now 80s concert last night and had a fantastic time. It was really good to see and listen to great live musicians and singers. The quality of voices was West End standard and we could dance and sing along to all the songs.
All staff at the venue were friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Alexander who went the extra mile for us and made us feel very welcome.
We will definitely visit again soon.

Wonderful hall and orchestra let down by the bar only serving drinks in plastic glasses. I asked for a glass and was told there weren’t any. So much for claims to sustainability. And is it really necessary to allow people to bring brimming pints of beer into a performance of The Dream of Gerontius, which only lasts in total for 100 minutes?

Went to the NYE Gala Concert, We've been several times and always the best entertainment - popular classical music plus some fun from the conductor - all very light hearted. London Concert Orchestra always good and the singers were impressive. The solo violinist was exceptional.
We also had the pre-concert dinner which was fine dining at it's best.
Congrats to all the staff who were working on such an important night of the year all to give us a good experience.
The only downside was no enforcement of mask wearing. There were plenty of stewards who could have mentioned it and it could have been mentioned from the stage. It's weak for the ICC not to tackle this issue.

Where is best to sit for a graduation ceremony
Written 20 November 2024
Sorry for the late response.
I believe there are a few disabled parking spaces, much in demand, which I assume must be very close.
Personally, I get the tram from Grand Central and the walk from the nearest stop to the entrance is quite short, but involves crossing the road (not busy).
Please check with the various Birmingham websites but I understand there is no drop off / collection point immediately nearby as Broad Street is now a “red route” with no stopping allowed for motorists.

I've never had any issues with legroom but I'm 5 '7'. Excellent leg room would probably suit your BIL would be stalls near one of the doors, end of row, which is where I sat and you could stretch your legs out.
