Terrible. Left feeling extremely deflated by the lack luster experience.

Polar Express Birmingham was a total waste of money and time. After a short ride we were sat waiting and waiting and waiting for the entertainment to start. We were all cold and bored by the time we departed and the children had resigned to playing on our phones to entertain themselves. I have complained at least three times to no avail. Save your money and go elsewhere

Lovely day trip to Bath with superb food and service
Dec 2019
We booked premium dining seats for the day trip to Bath ( for the Christmas Market) joining at Warwick Parkway. It was a superb day out. The standard of of food and Pullman Class service for both breakfast and dinner was excellent and leisurely such that passengers really enjoyed the experience. Not cheap but as a special experience we felt it was good value for money and would do it again. Loco 7029 Clun Castle was immaculately turned out and arrived at Bath bang on time - having run reasonably flat out between Didcot and Chippenham. Also bang on time coming back. Can really recommend it as a special experience which remains long in the memory.

Polar Express - I'm a Believer
Dec 2019
Having not booked last year , my children were keen to sample the Polar Express . Tickets booked the golden tickets arrived to much excitement .

Whilst not negatives in any way to set the expectations , for a train ride it is expensive and the journey not the most exciting running down to Tyseley . For us though it wasn't about the journey but the theatre of it . It is very odd seeing so many people at the height of rush hour in Pajamas's on Moor Street station but that only added to the anticipation. Staff were very friendly and once boarded the coaches festively decorated . The actors on the train who brought the story to life were brilliant and given they are on a railway coach I thought engaged with the passengers really well. It isn't an easy space to perform in and they deserve real credit for what they do. The whole performance held my families attention and the gentle banter between my non "believing" child was hilarious. Cookies and Hot Chocolate went down well and staff went out of their way to get an alternative drink for us too . Mugs have pride of place and the gift of the bell from Santa was what you want from the polar express . Santa also made time for each child and (adult) .

We as a family really enjoyed it and it certainly launched our Christmas . My thanks to Cath, Ben , Alan and everyone involved

Great Day out on the Shakespeare Express
Sep 2019
Myself and 3 friends booked onto the last Shakespeare Express of the 2019 season (15th September). The whole day from start to finish was brilliant and we were lucky that we had a glorious day weather wise too. We traveled in 1st class and could not fault anything about the day at all, and there was plenty to see and do in Stratford Upon Avon to keep us occupied for the 4 hours which we were there. We definitely intend on travelling on this again this year and possibly on some other VT tours too.

White Rose Trip expensive but worth it
Dec 2019
My wife, daughter and I took the White Rose excursion to York on December 22 with Vintage Trains that we had wanted to do the year before which had unfortunately been cancelled. The trip included breakfast on the way up to York and Dinner on the way back. All of this was in first class Pullman carriages which were very comfortable. I must take my hat off to the folk from Frying Scotsman the caterers who served our food efficiently and with good humour. The steam train journey was excellent and at each scheduled stop there were a number of train spotters photographing and video recording the Clun Castle.
Our daughter was particularly impressed as she only know steam from good children’s literature where she claims lots of good children’s stories have a steam train in them.

Polar Express Disappointment
Dec 2019
I want to start by saying I didn’t want to leave this review as I thought I would give them a chance to resolve my complaint privately but it’s been over 2 weeks after complaining via email and I have still not even received an acknowledgement let alone a resolution so I feel I have no choice…

We went on the Polar express with our toddler daughter in December, despite the hefty price tag we thought it would be worth it following a recommendation from friends. However, we were left extremely disappointed. Our main gripe was that we watched Santa coming up the train spending a long time with each child talking to them, however, when it came to our turn he spent literally 10 seconds with our daughter took a quick photo then left. My daughter was left very upset she wasn’t spoken to like the other children or given a chance to tell him what she wanted for Xmas…

There were long periods of waiting as well where the train was stationary, there were several experiences described by others we just did not have – there was barely any character interaction, no conductor on the platform and no conductor punching our tickets etc. I’m afraid a lot of the time we were quite frankly bored!

To me I think it’s fair that every paying customer receives the same full experience but this just doesn’t seem to be the case with the Moor Street Polar Express.

I’m afraid an hour spent sitting on a mostly stationery train, a watery cold hot chocolate, a 10 second meeting with Santa plus a couple of mugs & a bell does not come close to justifying the price tag.

Next year we will be going on the Telford Polar Express where you seem to get a lot more for your money.

Bath Christmas Market
Dec 2019 • Couples
A great trip on the Clun Castle to the Bath Market. Vintage Trains provided an excellent service, with their attentive, hard working and efficient staff. We enjoyed first class food and beverages throughout the journey. Amazing number of rail enthusiasts taking photos and waving as we passed through the countryside. A wonderful day out and everything worked like clockwork 😂

White Rose to York - perfect
Dec 2019 • Friends
The three of us (husband, daughter and me) took the Wild Rose trip to York last Saturday and loved every minute. We had premier dining tickets so started off the day with a three course breakfast (brilliantly prepared) served by the most friendly and efficient crew you could wish for. There was plenty of time to enjoy the eating and general steam experience as we headed for York. We had a few hours in York to visit the Christmas markets and generally chill out in this beautiful city before heading back in our Pullman dining car to Solihull. Dining was a five course Christmas meal. Again really well presented by the same crew. My only issue was that by the time we arrived in Solihull we were exhausted but it was a very memorable and lovely day.

Wow wow wow.... What an amazing experience, the dancing chefs were fantastic, the conductor fabulous, santa spent lots of time with my daughter and was giving my step dad grief as we were all dressed as elves. Hot choc was beautiful, the cookie was gorgeous. Yes maybe it was a bit expensive but I think it was well worth the money. Truly magical. Definitely will revisit
