About
Welcome to St Martin in the Bull Ring. This is one of the most ancient and contemporary buildings in Birmingham. Most of this Grade II listed church is from the nineteenth century. It was built in 1873 and is an example of gothic Victorian architecture, designed by Alfred Chatwin, from Birmingham, who also worked on the houses of parliament. But St Martin's is much older than that. There has been a church on this site since 1290 and may well have been a simple place of worship here in Saxon times. St Martin's is also a place of worship for a thriving community who refurbished the building in 2000 making it more light and open. In 2009 we created a tea lounge, healing center, and learning and advice service so our hospitality in the heart of the city could be extended. We believe that what Jesus called 'Life in all its fullness' can be discovered right here in the crosscurrents of the marketplace. You are very welcome to come in and walk around.

Nice church but odd. Clearly a mix of styles Which which while old classic, were clearly new, in part. This was a pre norman church, then a medieval church then....on and on, destroyed and rebuilt numerous times, mixing different period elements. Located right next to the shopping mall, free admission

Pleasantly surprised to find this lovely church was open unexpectedly this afternoon whilst out doing food shopping.

Popped in for quiet contemplation & prayer.

Sign outside states church is open Thur & Sat 1pm – 4pm both days for prayer.

The stain glass window by the alter is lovely in its detail & design.

As you turn to the left to exit there is an opportunity to light candles for loved ones & learn more about some of the church’s history by reading the plaques & info board around the walls.

I would say it is just one of many churches, impressive from outside with quite a simple interior. What makes it unforgettable is a view from the Bullring. I couldn´t get enough of them. I kept coming back and photographing it again and again.

Visiting Birmingham for a weekend and looking around the very busy Bull Ring complex it was interesting to find St Martin in the Bull Ring Church. A real oasis on a busy Saturday. The original 13th century building was enlarged in medieval times. In 1873 the church was demolished and rebuilt preserving the tower and steeple and many interesting features including a Burne-Jones window which was removed for safe keeping the day before a World War 2 bomb dropped beside the church.

The church is such a peaceful oasis in the middle of one of the most modern of city centres - the contrast is worth the exploration - see for yourself!

The bull ring is a large pleasant shopping centre with plenty to see and do. The church in front of it is a great place to go and have a look. A visit to the bull ring Isn't complete without seeing the iconic bull statue outside and have a picture touching it's balls.
