About
This square has been changed recently from a grassy slope used for picnics during summer days to a European-style pedestrian plaza that is accessible throughout the year.

    Titular centre of the city
Terrific, despite the all encompassing renovations underway that currently cordon off any ability to approach the Council House and Mistry’s Fountain, in particular. The latter is a marvellous installation that was unveiled 1994 upon the remodelling of the Square. It is a multifaceted creation by Dhruva Mistry and incorporates The River, Youth and Guardians. Latter in the form of a Sphinx. Sculpturally within the space, Iron Man by Antony Gormley is a 1993 gift to the city by a Bank. Queen Victoria holding sceptre and orb originates from 1901 and was recast in bronze in 1951. Amongst the great architecture is the magnificent Council House and the Town Hall.

    Under Restoration
I visited Victoria Square in July 2023 and the area was mostly closed off as they were restoring the paving so it was a convuluted journey to cross the square. There is a statue of Queen Victoria on the edge of the square and the Midland Metro trams go past as well. I imagine once the work is finished it will look nice.

One of must see in Birmingham
I enjoyed the time I spent at the Victoria square. The building of the council at the top is impressive, the fountain at the other hand makes a relaxing atmosphere inviting to sit down for a while. I is a very nice place and definitely one of must see in Birmingham.

Disrespectful antimodest statue evidently meant to spit in face of Victorias legacy. Nothing else special.

This is one of the main places in Birmingham. There are some great older buildings and (at least when we were there) there were some great statues and flowers. Besides there is a very nice fountain.

We were in Victoria Square during the Commonwealth Games. It was absolutely packed with people watching various Games events on the big screen, listening to commentaries and a DJ.
Statue of Queen Victoria has been replaced with an eye-catching but odd politically correct installation. Queen Victoria must be turning in her grave!
Antony Gormley's 'Iron Man' is still there, as is the statue and fountain officially known as 'The River', but universally referred to as 'The Floozie in the Jacuzzi!'

Came here during the commonwealth games, nice atmosphere. Colourful steps to sit on and eat your packed lunch. And the statue of Queen Victoria has been reimagined and looked very cool.

At last the Floozie has been given back her jacuzzi and some kind soul even put some bubble bath in it! Hopefully, no more leaks.

What a disappointment! After having had this booked for several weeks, we surprised the children and took them on Christmas Eve. After being on the Ice for just 15 minutes we got off because it was too busy to skate and social distancing was impossible. Approx 70% of people did not have face masks on. I went to see one of the staff members who stated they have a max capacity of 350 people and this was one of the quieter times - unbelievable. I stated that we didn't feel safe and he stated that "the government are just scaring people about COVID and if we didn't feel safe then we should just leave. Then he made a sarcastic comment suggesting there is always risk in coming out as you could get hit by a bus". I stated that I disagree and he should keep his opinions to himself. I asked to speak to the manager who was unavailable and I was told to come back later. Our family of 5 left immediately and could not wait to get out of there. Many of the staff did not have face masks, there was no sanitiser and the place was overcrowded. I can't believe their rudeness and laissez-faire view towards COVID and skating risks. Avoid at all measured.
