Celebrated as the UK's favourite 20th century building, Coventry Cathedral is known all over the world as a beautiful and unique venue. Designed by architect Sir Basil Spence following the bombing of the city in 1940 it was opened in 1962, and contains some of the finest examples of 1950's and 60's art and architecture in the country.

We parked our car in the cathedral car park and walked between the old and new cathedral on our way into town. Cathedrals do not hold any interest to us so we did not go in the new one but we did have a wander...More

A special thank you to Mr Kenneth Barber who took us around the blitz experience. For only £1.50 each we spent a good 30 minutes in a section of the cathedral not open to the public - at the alter end of the old cathedral...More

Personally I find the bombed out ruins of the old cathedral very moving and atmospheric. The new cathedral which is part of the complex holds little appeal as I find it a cold reflection of the glory of the old building. Being a bit of...More

Both cathedrals are stunning and have different things to offer visitors however I as a local get cross that there is a charge to see the new one but recognise that it has to be maintained. But you can potter around the old one for...More

We firstly went into the ruins of the 'old' cathedral. It was very moving to contemplate the death and destruction this represents and the desire for reconciliation that is continuously expressed in both buildings. They ask for a fee to visit the Cathedral. Don't mind...More

This cathedral is all that remains from the WWII bombing (with the exception of the new structure built alongside it). They say that once you've seen one, you've seen them all but i found that the Coventry Cathedral is unlike most cathedrals or ruins! Its...More
