    Should be better
This place ought to be better. Staff are friendly. Their admission system is clearly not easy to use and does not support staff well: it is slow and inflexible. Entry is very pricey is you dont have a local GoCV card. Reasonable attempt to make the place accessible. The interpretation is not obvious as it appeared to be large print material only. The mobile tablets are difficult to use, in part because they try to do too much and forget the basics. There have been decent attempts to make it child friendly, especially the dressing up gear

    A little gem
The guildhall was recommended to me by a local lady and my visit did not disappoint. The staff are very knowledgeable and totally emersed in the history and keen to share their knowledge. I liked that I could go at my own pace though I struggled a little with the technology, but that's me, A truly beautiful building with a lot of history.
Hello Ruth, thank you for leaving your review of your recent visit to St Mary's Guildhall. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit and that our staff were keen to share their knowledge and were helpful. We hope you visit us again sometime soon.

A must visit if you love local history
This is a historical gem in the heart of Coventry. We popped in for a quick look around before we were going to visit the Cathedrals. However, we stayed for much longer than we had anticipated. The new signs/story boards down stairs are great and they have worked hard to provide a fun experience for children. Upstairs we met a fabulous docent who was really knowledgable about the history of the Guildhall. She made the huge tapestry of saints come alive by telling us their stories. It was also fascinating to discover that Coventry became the main city of England for a few years. We learned a lot about the history of the building through time.

    The Town Crier beckoned
I had taken my 12 year old Grandson, who lives in Hampshire, to see 'Dippy' at the Herbert Museum. I also showed him the other Coventry sites including the ruins of the old Cathedral. In my preplanning I had seen reference to the St. Mary's Guildhall tour and I certainly wanted to experience it myself but wondered if it would be of interest to my Grandson. As we came close to the Guildhall we were attracted by the voice of a "Town Crier" (recorded) and stepped inside the courtyard. We were met by one of the Guides and within minutes we were taking the tour! Other reviewers refer to the Guildhall being a "Hidden Gem"; it is exactly that in both senses of that description. I would describe it as being "history on steroids", wonderfully presented by enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly guides. If you are interested in English history a visit to St. Mary' Guildhall is a must. Most importantly, my Grandson enjoyed it too, he participated in a number of the activities aimed at engaging youngsters.
Thank you for your lovely review we are thrilled you and your grandson enjoyed your visit and we hope to see you again soon.

Afternoon Tea - get it on your 'to do list' for Coventry
My friends/colleagues and I (35 in total) booked afternoon tea at St Marys Guildhall for the 21st October 2023. It took a huge amount of planning and Mae the manger was great from beginning to end, so friendly and easy going. Through all the changes and various menus choices, including catering for a very specific dietary requirement she was excellent. We emailed (and met) each other so many times, Mae answered even on her days off within minutes, you could not ask for more. The actual day was great, the hall has a beautiful atmosphere the table settings were perfect and we could not have asked for more. Clean and slick service, lovely staff (the staff were wonderful) and they had a lot to do with 35 of us, my only issue it was over too soon.
Thank you for your 5 star review it is great to hear that your event was a success and we hope to see you again soon.

    Fantastic afternoon tea!
Really great afternoon tea with a group of friends (13 of us in total). The staff had been very communicative for the few weeks before hand, sorting out pre-orders, especially for those with dietary restrictions. On the day, we were warmly welcomed, had a space to ourselves, had delicious food and just the right amount of service - not hurried, just attentive. Overall a wonderful way to catch up with friends, in a beautiful environment with excellent service. Thanks to Mae and the team for a memorable afternoon :)
Thank you for your lovely review, we're so happy you had such a great experience with us! We hope to see you again soon.

We spent a wonderful couple of hours exploring a building whose existence, given the devastation of 1940 and "progress" before and after WWII, is remarkable in itself. The guildhall is simply stunning, and the recent renovation has been executed perfectly. It is a reminder of how important Coventry has been in the nation's history. I also loved dresssing up as Henry VI. All the guides were friendly and knowledgeable ,,, with a special "shout-out" for Dewi and Abi.

I really enjoyed my visit! Great way to spend a couple of hours seeing a beautifully-restored historical space and learning about Coventry history. Particularly appreciated the self-guided tour using a tablet - really informative. And of course the tapestry is beautiful!
