Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such a shame to see what little is left of Medieval Coventry in this state. The bad: doesn't feel safe at night. Horrible underpass at one end and a pretty grim city centre at the other. Wheelie bins galore on the pavement (seems to be a theme in Coventry). Vape, and kebab/burger shop (with the usual crap posters) and a hairdressers. Pub/bar called Shenanigans (lots of bouncers stating, "hats off or turn it around" - "hello", is always a better start for the customer). The good: Curry house Tumeric Gold has a wonderful looking interior. Looks like a must try. The Old Windmill Pub. 16th Century Ale House. Very friendly and I'd say arguably the best pub in Coventry. Certainly the best in the city centre. Full review to be uploaded. If you're heading to this street or through the underpass, make sure you are in company

Very disappointed to see these lovely old buildings in such a shabby place. The road was full of potholes and litter, cars parked everywhere and a constant stream of traffic. Such a shame to see empty shops and dirty facades. Didn't think it was well signposted, we had to ask for directions in the end.

Very sad to see that something so historical and beautiful can be left to slowly rot away.
What I expected was something similar to the shambles in York. So well kept properties that contained beautiful shops. Unfortunately this is not what Spon Street is like. I found it actually quite distressing to see these lovely old buildings decaying. No one seems to be taking care of them. The whole area is rough.
Surely they Shld be grade 1 listed and be protected? It should be pedestrianised too.
I don’t think they will be lasting another 100 - 200 years unfortunately
The Council Shld be saving them

Seriously. A plaque at one end of the street tells us that it was restored with money from Europe. Maybe we need to rejoin in order to get this back into shape! It's absolutely dreadful to think that these old buildings are at the mercy of the whims of those that rent/own them. Windows in 16C historic buildings knocked out and boarded up, empty 'shops', huge rubbish bins left in front of said historic buildings, skips full of crap, remnants of info boards so weathered that they're no longer readable. Get the picture? And yet, 'historic Spon Street' is marketed as 'must see'. I'm not sure what era of was best to see it, bit I don't think it's now.

A really interesting part of this city. You can easily pass it on your way towards the Sky Dome (Cinema Complex) or if you are in the centre of town. There are plenty of independent places to eat and drink and plenty of photo opportunities of this picturesque street.

Was surprised to see this street with very old houses in Coventry. Very attractive with little shops. Don’t think they have always been in that exact location

Spon Street has had several small historic houses moved into it from various parts of Coventry, rebuilt brick by brick, timber to timber, to preserve them whilst parts of Coventry were rebuilt.
The houses now are used by various small shop tradesmen, + an old pub/ tavern., None that I saw are terribly well suitable for wheelchair users.owing to the small spaces inside the shops , restaurants etc. but certainly the street is worth a photo shot.
The 14th century St. John the Baptist church is the the right before the street + the Ikea furniture store is on the left., both of interest to visit for different reasons,

See how architecture changes over time, some in better condition than others, but that is inevitable.
Useful information boards on many buildings.
Sad to see so many shops are closed.
