The gardens are lovely. So much to see, and very interesting. I love the vegatable and fruit gardens, but lots to see. The food is very good, ample servings, and friendly service. There is also a small shop there, and in the summer you can buy plants there too.

This beautifully laid out site is also home to a College, and is a joy to walk through and explore. Close to Goodwood Race Course, towering above it in the distance, it is a well worthwhile visit.

We feel too many places this time of year charge a lot of money for a Father Christmas experience that has too many extras which sometimes forgets the true magic . After spending a fortune in previous years visiting father Christmases we decided to try West Dean as my husband and I got married there. I have to say that... More

Walking here on a lovely sunny Autumn day was a delight. The walled garden, kitchen garden, sunken garden are all worth seeing but the real glory at this time of the year is in the fabulous trees. On a weekday afternoon there were few other visitors although the cafe was quite busy and we enjoyed good coffee and fruit cake.... More

We went to West Dean and had lunch sitting outside in the sunshine (in November!), then went for a walk to enjoy the countryside. The trees were a riot of colour, not a breath of wind and the most glorious day.

I am Australian horticulturalist who, this year spent 3 wonderful months working as a volunteer gardener at West Dean Gardens. West Dean is a grand, restored, Victorian garden on the South Downs of West Sussex. Having seen over 40 of the UK's finest gardens, I can confidently say that its standard of presentation and attention to detail is second to... More
