About
Discover Yorkshire with Brontë Walks. We offer tours, guides and so much more to make your visit to Yorkshire a memorable one. I am a Blue Badge Tourist Guide for Yorkshire and my love of the county and in particular Haworth and the moors that surround it is the inspiration for my work. I offer a wide range of guides walks, tours, support for tour companies, meet and greet services, day tours, drive tours and extended tours across the whole of Yorkshire. My job is to help you discover Yorkshire and all that it has to offer. The ‘Passionate Brontës’ is our acclaimed walking tour of Haworth that tells the story of the Brontë family. I use their letters, poems and writing to weave the story into the social fabric of the times. This is offered as either a scheduled walk that all are welcome to join, or as a private tour. It is the most wonderful prelude to visiting the Parsonage Museum. The times for these walks do vary and it is best to check when they are running.

My sister and I recently spent 3 wonderful days taking in Brontë country with Johnnie Briggs. We enjoyed our tour tremendously. Johnnie guided us through sweeping landscapes and enthralled us with stories of the Brontes with ease and good cheer. The pacing of our tour was just right, as was the blend of activities. We had time to wander, time to reflect and to simply sit & enjoy conversation over tea. Just what we wanted. We especially loved the Brontë Parsonage Museum, Hebden Bridge, Grassington & Bolton Abbey. All were spectacular places. We are inspired by wild & beautiful Yorkshire & looking forward to a future visit. Thank you Johnnie!

From the first e-mail to Johnnie Briggs to learn about a Brontë Walk in Haworth tour there was a feeling of confidence this would be a great and thorough experience. We were not disappointed. Johnnie met us at the designated spot and was approachable, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the Brontë family, their lives and of course the lovely town of Haworth. The day we spent with Johnnie Briggs will be one we will not soon forget. One of the highlights was taking a beautiful walk upon the Moors. What an experience. Johnnie is a kind and sensitive soul with a gift for weaving a story.

We booked Johnnie to do the Brontë tour for my daughters 16th birthday, she is an avid English Lit reader and the Brontë books are her prized collection.
Johnnie was just the perfect person to spend the day with.
His knowledge of everything Brontë is outstanding, the day was simply perfect.

First visit to Haworth and an opportunity to do the Bronte tour which made extra special by Johnny Briggs - his story telling and knowledge / enthusiasm for Bronte and Haworth history is 2nd to none - a natural ability to involve you in the history and story telling and leave you wanting to know more about Bronte family and their lives.

It's been a lifelong dream to come to Haworth and experience everything related to the Brontes. I was in touch with Johnnie Briggs months in advance of my trip and he is one of the nicest men I've met. He was super helpful with all recommendations both related to Haworth as well as England in general. He and I spent two half days together and he showed me Ponden Kirk, Top Withins, the Bronte Parsonage Museum, the Haworth church, and several others sites. He was a wealth of knowledge and he had fun quizzes for me throughout the day. He was able to recommend me things to do on my solo day and I hiked for several hours along the Moors. It was a magical experience! Johnnie pointed out things that I didn't know about the Brontes and he made my trip memorable. I would highly recommend getting in touch with him for everything Bronte!!

Jonnie’s incredible walking tour of the Brontë family history brought their novels to life! He is such a natural storyteller and I can’t recommend him enough. What makes him stand out is the way he draws on both historical artifacts (architecture, art, letters & diaries) and observations of the natural landscape and wildlife in the area. Our two-hour walk along the moors transported us back in time.

This was my fourth hike with Johnnie Briggs and, as usual, he did not disappoint. We walked to Ponden Kirk, aka “Penistone Crag” in Wuthering Heights, where I was able to stand on the ledge with the breathtaking moors below. We shared great conversation, as Johnnie is so well-versed in a variety of subjects, but especially the Brontes. Next we went to Wycoller Hall to see the remains of the house that was the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. We topped off the day with hot chocolate and dessert at Cobbles and Clay on Main Street in Haworth. If you visit the Haworth area, don’t miss a walk with Johnnie Briggs. He is brilliant!

Johnnie is such a gem. My 21 year old daughter and I decided to do a walking tour to explore the inspiration for Wuthering Heights and to learn more about the Brontës. Not only did Johnnie provide us with an informative walk, he also offered transportation and accommodation suggestions which completely changed our trip for the better. We came in on the old steam train, where Johnnie picked us up and took us to the sweetest B&B to drop off our bags. Johnnie actually saved the day with this B&B recommendation. It looked online as if all accommodations were sold out so we planned to just visit Haworth for the day. Johnnie emailed me to let me know there was a room available at Rosebud Cottage should we want to stay the night. I was over the moon and immediately felt like I was in good hands.
Next we did the walk up to Top Withins. As we walked up the trail, Johnnie not only told stories of the Brontës, but also shared the names and types of birds and plants of the region. He is so passionate about Haworth and all of its beauty and it comes through in his tour. At the end of the walk, Johnnie dropped us off in the centre of Haworth at our request and gave us some more recommendations, including treats to try when in England. I cannot recommend this tour, or any tour by Johnnie, enough. It was a highlight of our trip. Thank you Johnnie!!

Johnnie was an absolute delight. He wove the story of the Brontes and the history of the period together, effortlessly and with finesse, and we couldn’t get enough of his tales.
I can’t recommend Johnnie’s tour enough; he was so warm and engaging! It made our trip to the parsonage afterwards so much more rewarding.
Thank you, Johnnie!

Hello, I apologise for the delay in replying to your question, I have been away on tour and I am just catching up.
I am sorry, we don't do any ghost walks and there is no one in Haworth who currently offers these.
The best place in Yorkshire for Ghost Walks is York. I am not sure that helps.
Best wishes,
Johnnie

Hello. We love well behaved dogs and they are welcome on our walks around Haworth, 'The Passionate Brontes' and on our moorland walks. However, there are sheep on part of the moor and they are waiting to lamb, which means that dogs have to be on a lead for part of the walks. Just to note that from March 31st to July dogs have to be on a lead because of the ground nesting birds. I hope this helps. Johnnie

Hello we are visiting Haworth on 27th and 28th October are there any tours on these dates?
Johnnie B
Oakworth, null, United Kingdom4 contributions
Hello. I hope all is well with you. Yes, we are running a Passionate Brontes tour on the Saturday morning at 10.30am. This is the tour that tells the story of the family through their letters, poems and writing, weaving the story into the social fabric of the times. It costs £7.50 per person and we meet on the Church Steps at the top of Main Street, by the red telephone box. You can buy tickets from the Guide at the beginning of the walk. We don't walk very far, about 800 meters in all, it is more about the story and we finish in the Church for the last twenty minutes or so.
If you need any further information please just ask and I will do my best to answer. I look forward to meeting you. Best wishes, Johnnie

I'm wondering if you provide a private tour of Bronte Walk? My friend and I would like to go to see heather flowers when they are in bloom. Currently planning to go around after 8/20. Please advise the fee and dates.
