We went in to see the building and decoration and were not disappointed. There is some amazing tiling especially in the cafe and if you ignore the modern library facilities the original part is a gem.

The quality of the decoration of the stairs, with their tiles, iron work and carved animals is truly lovely. The Tiled Hall, once the Reading Room now has its tiles exposed in all their glory plus delicious cakes, sandwiches etc

The library is ok for general books, but it can be irritating. It does not stock the periodicals it once did and books are often in stacks that staff have to fetch or cannot find. Visits vary. Sometimes I have found helpful staff and sometimes...More

This is a great library with some interesting items, but it's the building that is the most impressive feature of all. Take the time to climb to the top of the stairs. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
