Our 7 year old is studying the Stone Age at school and we decided to embark on a tour with Laurence to help bring it to life. He certainly did that – we imagined we would simply walk around the stones together. We couldn’t have been more wrong. Laurence created an adventure, showing us how to approach Stonehenge the Stone Age way, giving us appreciation of the context of the stones, the people, the history and the possible meanings. Our girls went back in time, free to ask any questions that popped into their heads (“Would the sheep have been there during the Stone Age?”) and Laurence’s answers were factual, interesting and inspiring. Thank you for making a ‘visit’ into an experience and creating the best history lesson they (and we!) have ever had.

Absolutely brilliant. This was one of the best days out ever. Laurence grew up exploring the areas we visited and speaks engagingly about history, landscape and geology with a passion and authority that comes from deep knowledge acquired over many years. A great many 'thank yous' from our whole family!

Mr. Davies provided my partner and I an exceptional “ancestry” tour of Wiltshire. He arranged for us to be picked up and returned to our club in London for the day by private car. This was very helpful as my partner is partially disabled. (Although the London traffic was horrendous and we might do differently next time). We then proceeded to meetup with him and he provided a wonderful, well informed tour of a list of villages and sites from whence my ancestors hailed specific to Wiltshire, which I had provided to him, such as churches and villages from genealogical research I had done. It was, he said, the first tour of that nature he had done. He had scouted the sites in advance! Not only that, but as an archaeologist and historian, he had great knowledge of the area. We got to see the ancestral sites, very meaningful to me as my grandfather was an emigrant to the U.S. We also were able to fit in some Neolithic sites, two small, interesting museums, several iconic villages, and a luxury lunch at a Michelin starred restaurant on a lovely resort estate. My partner is a Numismatist and very interested in coins, medallions and hordes, and Mr Davies even had a great knowledge of these as well. As a premier musician, he was extremely cultured and well travelled and was even acquainted with my partners great uncle, a well known French Horn player. What a small world we live in and I would not hesitate to say what a high recommendation we would give him, a lovely chap. It was a great day and though not inexpensive, well worth the cost.

Laurence was wonderful! From arranging private transportation from Oxford, thus avoiding difficult early morning train travel, to explaining the significance of the sites, in detail, he made everything easy. We did not know much about Stonehenge or the surrounding area, but knew that there was more to see than just the one famous site. We also wanted to avoid a large impersonal bus tour. This tour is the answer for you if you want an in depth experience of the entire area and not just Stonehenge itself. Laurence has an encyclopedic first hand knowledge of the area, from his own lifelong experience in the area, including participating in archeological digs.We cannot say enough positive about the entire day, which was second to none on our tour of southern England.

We were on a "best friends trip of a lifetime" in England and both of us agreed that Laurence's tour was the highlight of our two weeks in the UK! Laurence was so knowledgeable and his passion was very evident! He brought the history of the area to life in a way that you just can't get from books or bus tours. We enjoyed his company and felt like we'd made a new friend when the day was over! THIS is the way to see the Stonehenge/Avebury area!
