Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For whatever reason, this market has slowly been going downhill for several years. Once upon a time it had a fantastic variety of stalls. Nowadays it is just a shadow of its former self. This is such a shame, as it could really be good. I only called by this particular time on my from one place to another, and was not really worth it. The last time we visited this market was 2019 and it looks and feels exactly the same. I doubt if i will bother again.

I’ve been a local for 12 years now, was born here too so know the square well. During that time I’ve seen it be rebuilt and the parking area gotten rid of which was definitely a big improvement. I would say the market itself has gone downhill over the years, some of the stalls are filthy and others offer lukewarm food that haven’t been heated through properly which is potentially dangerous. I remember it being nicer as a kid, with the smell of the cinnamon doughnut van being one of my fondest memories - now gone. At first glance it’s quite a pretty square lined with lovely big trees, however as other reviewers have pointed out the shops are almost non-existent, with an insane amount of mediocre cafes to choose from instead. I can confirm that the public toilets are extraordinarily disgusting too, in the daytime it’s 20p to use the facilities that are kept somewhat clean. The free night time toilet is always filthy and often flooded with a mixture of water, urine and god knows what else. The council should provide waders to use the facility.

The worst part of it all for me however is the antisocial behaviour that is often witnessed, particularly around the statue area. It is often crawling with chavs causing trouble, and on a number of occasions I’ve been harassed by random people, getting in my face and acting almost psychotic. I wonder if the boredom caused by the lack of shops and entertainment in Salisbury is to blame for this.

As with many towns the market square is the centre of the town. It is a large open area surrounded on all sides by shops, restaurants and cafes. The second day of our visit to Salisbury was market day with loads of stall set up on the square selling cloths, food and general items. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

It did not seem to us too overly interesting nor was it worth more time than a quick-walk-through. There is a statue in the square/place of an historical figure (Henry Faucett) which should have been more cared for.

The Market Square int he heart of Salisbury is a lovely and lively place. It is a nice setting with attractive buildings all around plus many cafes, restaurants and shops.

It is worth visiting any time but the public market held in it is especially nice. It has many vendors selling a wide range of things form general daily items like clothes to artisan foods, specialty clothes, etc. We bought some interesting t-shirts, excellent bread, and some nice cheeses for low prices.

Lovely big open area nicely maintained. Outside the Town Hall we found free to use deck chairs and ample shade. Lots of catering outlets around the edge. Toilet facilities.

We were recommended a visit to the market by our hosts at Cathedral View B&B. It was probably the finest we have seen in Britain but we couldn't buy anything because we weren't going home soon enough........
