Great to visit after the Cathedral
An excellent well curated local museum with extremely friendly staff. A great place to visit after the Cathedral. Gives a more personal account of the Rifles and has a beautiful garden at the back for picnics in summer. Good value too.

A great little museum, a taste of local history.
We visited on a short break in Salisbury. The lady at the desk was charming and friendly. The exhibits were interesting and informative with lots to see. The entry fee was excellent value ,£5 - yes £5 and that allows you to visit all year! And the cafe was great as well!

I must return & try their food
Small cafe & with outside seating, next to the museum in the Cathedral Close. my wife & daughter had drinks, t an outside table before entering the museum. I was not well, so I waited inside the cafe for their return, The staff obliged by providing a small table where I had a cup of green tea. I was able to note that many customers seemed to be regulars, New customers were quickly served & appeared to enjoy their experience.

A small museum, and I suspect some people skip round it in 20mins or so, but if you take your time and look at everything properly, there is a lot to be seen. Lots of military uniforms, but also weapons, things soldiers brought back from other countries, needlework, mess items, etc.

The biggest two pluses are the excellent information displays explaining what is in the display cases and the volunteers.

The volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and very willing to answer questions on almost any topic.
I have some interest in needlework, and I was looking at a small flag with a really crude applique of a dragon.
I asked one of the volunteers about it.
The dragon was the symbol of one of the regiments, and the flag was made (clearly in great haste) for the D-Day landings as a 'follow me' flag for the regiment.
And from that we got onto a discussion of why a dragon (comes from the regiment having served in China), and then he showed us the silver dragon menu holders from the Officer's Mess, and a beautiful Chinese robe that may have belonged to an Emperor (superb embroidery wit dragons. The number of claws on the dragon's foot can indicate who the robe was made for)
Basically, loads of interesting stuff, take your time and look at everything, you may be surprised what you find. And ask at the desk if you want to know more about anything - they really are very helpful.

And for an added bonus, there's a lovely garden out the back.

Traces the history of the regiment through artefacts and descriptions revealing the role it has played in almost every conflict of the last 350 years. The museum is staffed by former members who are very knowledgeable.
