- dacabsWinston Park, South Africa495 contributionsA Windsor must-doA wonderful walk to do in Windsor! Stunningly beautiful in early morning!! You can start at Windsor castle or at the other end on Snow Hill. This is a free attraction!! Lovely to walk, run, take children, dogs. We even saw a horse drawn carriage. Highly recommendedVisited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 February 2024

The monumental bronze statue by Richard Westmacott stands on a stone plinth at Snow Hill in Windsor Great Park in the English county of Berkshire, at the southern end of the Long Walk, a tree-lined avenue which leads in a straight line about 2.65 mi (4.26 km) from the George IV Gateway at Windsor Castle.[1] It became a Grade I listed building in 1972".Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 7 March 2024
- dpkLondonEastcote, United Kingdom51 contributionsGreat relaxing walkI have done this walk so many times and I always find it uplifting. Really great way to get in your steps. Doing at a gentle amble takes a couple of hours to copper horse and back. Well worth it and pint tastes brilliant afterwards!Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 April 2024
- 1234simon47 contributionsGreat walk & spectacular views of deer & reindeer if you’re lucky. It’s a long walk & really something to experience. There are a great many people walking, jogging, dog walking constantly so very much to see. If you’re lucky you get to see the big amount of deer or reindeer out & about. At a gradual pace walking one way will take close to 90mins & then walking back again back to the castle the same.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 April 2024
- Drew KirkpatrickWhitehead, United Kingdom81 contributionsThe long walkLoved the long walk, there and back about 6 miles. Grounds are immaculate, no litter, plenty of room to enjoy. Saw deer, horses and birds of prey on my walk. A great morning in the sunshineVisited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 May 2024
- permia64,782 contributionsFulfils its name admirablyFulfilling amply its name at over 4 km long it is a fabulous stretch along the Great Park. Particular keen to see the Gates leading to the Castle. It was through these that the Queen’s Cortege drove in September 2022 before her laying to rest in St George’s Chapel.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 July 2024
- Rebecca SWisbech, United Kingdom1,274 contributionsA Lovely Long WalkI saw this when I watched the funeral procession of the late Queen Elizabeth with all the people either side of the road 20 deep and on arriving in Windsor for a few days it was a must to do. Ideal for all the family of all ages and an easy walk although a long one. Would definitely recommend it!Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 August 2024
- NCC-011740 contributionsWonderfull walkI have been here several times and it is indeed a "long walk" that long stretch seams t go on forever. It is a very pleasant area and walk, and feeds directly off the deer park where from September to October you get all the Stagg out. If you are walking down the walk toward the castle you end up in the town centre with plenty of places to stop and get a drink or food. If you are walking the otherway up away from the castle you and walk for 20+ miles through parks and woodland.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 September 2024

This is a great walk as iconic Windsor Castle remains in full view.It is quite a hike but tarmac the whole way.As this is one way how do you return. There are a number of options. We decided to continue our walk to reputable Savill Gardens also in Great Windsor Park so all in all 7 kms.Once you have reached the end of Long Walk you turn left and continue on tarmac road through woodland and herds of deer.
We chose this option as we were able to leave our car at Saville Gardens for the day and as we were planning to visit the gardens we had free parking for the whole day normally £12.So we left our car at Saville Gardens early morning and caught a local taxi £15 to Windsor Castle also for a visit the walked via Long Walk to Savill Gardens and picked up our car after a visit there

This 3 mile walk from the castle up to the Copper Horse Statue is well worth it.
We visited in August 2022 during the heatwave. We went around 3 o clock but decided to wait as we could see that there was hardly any shade. Plus the tarmac was melting due to the heat. We went back after having some tea around about 6ish and the walk was lovely. Still warm enough to enjoy the long walk from one end to the other. There were a few joggers and running groups around this time.
The hill where the Copper horse is based offers fantastic views all around on a clear day. You can see the planes landing at Heathrow Airport and most of London.
There are a few paths leading off the walk where you can explore more of the
park. We were sorry not to see the deer but probably just the wrong time of day. The park is huge so not surprised. Think we may need to return and explore the other areas of the park.

A memorable walk and worth the effort to complete. It is a very long, straight flat walk and recommend clothes ĺayers and comfortable shoes. The viewing point from the statue is fantastic taking in the castle and London and you can have a good rest there! Half way on right on way to the statue is a pretty lake with ducks, geese etc.

Lovely straight walk from Windsor Castle to the horse statue on snow Hill.
You can walk slowly, at a quicker pace or even run.
My wife and I started at 11am on a lovely dry August Saturday which was not too warm.
We were lucky to see some deer during our walk.
Before our return we stopped for a relaxing lunch at tht Fox and Hounds pub @Bishopsgate.
Lovely time spent great views would recommend.

A nice walk that I think is approximately 3 miles but all flat and tarmacked. Lovely view of the castle on your walk back. No cyclists, skateboards etc allowed so nothing to dodge out of way of. Nice views of the surrounding Windsor Park estates and the chance of spotting wild deer which we were lucky enough to do but only once we had reached the statue at the end.

First off Don’t look at the map for the Long Walk car park as it only directs you to a roundabout near the long walk
There is plenty of parking in Windsor and around, and let’s face it your there to walk so if it’s 5 minutes away then that should be no problem
Once you get in Windsor park and the Deer park it is beautiful. Dogs will need to be kept on the leash in the deer park
It does not which direction you walk in the is something on the horizon to inspire you. One way Windsor castle anthem other way a magnificent statues
To make the most of it go on a clear day and enjoy the views

I can't tell you how often I overheard, wow, it's a really long walk. For us at a relative stroll, about 20 minutes from gate to first road crossing. More time? I certainly would have gone further. All the way to the statue in the Great Park if I had the time. Even though short, it was a really pleasant evening walk. A beautifully shared space, except for those who had their devices on speaker - do you really want to share that?
What took me completely by surprise, however, is the fact that the Long Walk goes for a while past active husbandry land - presumably the King's stables and pastures. I was expecting something more open and treed, just from all the overhead photos during the recent weddings and funerals. Not to worry! It was nice to feel a part of things.
The townhouses to the other side were pretty fun to mingle with as well.
The only flaw was my lack of time.

The Long walk stretches from Windsor Castle and is a straight walk for about 4km (about 8-9 km to the end and back) It is lined with trees and strolling along it is a delightful way of spending an afternoon. The path is wide and is frequented by couples, families , dog walkers all enjoying the beautiful countryside. The walk back is particularly nice as you are approaching Windsor Castle. Very pleasant, very relaxing way to spend a few minutes or hours.

The Long Walk stretches from the George IV Gateway at Windsor Castle to the Copper Horse statue of King George III on Snow Hill in Windsor Great Park. It's a wide straight avenue, lined with trees and is traffic free, so it's great for...well a long walk! From Windsor to the Copper Horse and back is nearly 9km and you get excellent views of Windsor Castle as you approach on the return. Herds of red deer can often be spotted and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went along part of it in a horse and carriage on their wedding day!
