After having lunch on the square and walking around part of the walls of the city, we explored the castle. We were a bit rushed, because of our own time restraints, to explore the castle because we had walked outside the walls for some time. In hindsight, we'd do the castle first. Walls of the city are massive and impressive.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2024

Caernarfon used to be a great day out. We drove to the Slate Quay long stay car park. The price for long stay is displayed at £4.50. The card only machine debited £6.50 which we felt was excessive. The town used to be vibrant with small traders but now it's dying on its feet. So very sad but towns with sensible parking charges are thriving, try Conway which only cost us £2.30.

So sad to see Caernarfon sinking. So many shops closed down and so many charity shops. Not where the councillors heads are, but they have nice buildings and you can see they’ve spent money on them, but very little focus on shopping. Perhaps greedy landlords and high rates

Beautifully preserved, relaxing and friendly town by the sea. A great escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of city living. A breath of fresh with everything you need on the doorstep. I’m sure this little old place will fully recover from the unfortunate lockdown that we all had to endure with an influx of vibrant new eateries and resting places for us all to enjoy. Let us be patient. Much thanks for your hospitality’s . I can’t wait to visit again!

The town of Caernarfon was a place we wanted to head to as we had lovely memories of it. The old town walls and castle that sit surrounding the town are as stunning as they have ever been. However like many places this relies heavily on tourism snd due to Covid19 there has not been any. It has become a very run down town lots of places closed not surviving lockdown. Not the warm welcoming place I visited 5 years ago.

Caernarfon is a very picturesque old town, with lots of stonework and a pretty street decorated with brightly coloured umbrellas. We had such fun exploring the castle for a couple of hours, and afterwards had a short walk around the old town walls and streets. We would have liked to have spent longer here, but were just passing through and only had a few hours to spare.

Visited late afternoon after taking the wrong road on the way to somewhere else. The town was smaller than I expected and very quiet. I'm happy I visited as this is a historic place, but probably not going far out of your way to visit it the current climate unless you have other things planned locally.

On first arriving in Caernarfon we saw the walls and the Black Boy pub and thought it looks like a lovely quaint town with nice independent shops. But the further you get in to town you realise how run down it actually is. Lots of empty shops, shops and eateries with smashed or boarded up windows, litter everywhere and lots of people walking around who are clearly on drugs. It is a shame because we had heard a lot of nice things about the castle and town, and with a bit of investment it could be lovely, but it is just not somewhere you would want to stay for very long.

Some work went into building these walls, and certainly an impressive engineering feat. Today, these walls are still in good shape and are one of the sites to see in Caernarfon. We noticed that the areas around the walls are used for alfresco dining and drinking.

Yes, on some parts.
You can also climb some of the towers (tight worn curly stair cases - as you'd expect in a castle of this age)...but bear in mind it's not for the faint hearted...I did it with a determined 3 year old and needed a pint to recover...he however loved it and still talks about it 9 months later.

As with all other public places, dogs need to be on a leash with usual restrictions on shops/cafes etc
