Definitely worth a visit, bigger than anticipated (I don’t say that very often!)
Lovely market – much bigger than I anticipated and all the vendors were very friendly, but not pushy. We had two dogs with us and everyone was very accommodating. We purchased some lovely trinkets and gifts to take home, all were very reasonably priced. We particularly loved Lilly & Pearl (wax melts, etc) who are very personable and informative. Most of the market is undercover if it is raining, but there is a lovely ice cream parlour (Shepherds) outside the external section. Worth a visit and there is plenty to see do and eat in Abergavenny afterwards.

    One of Wales's best markets!
One of the best markets in Wales! Abergavenny is one of Cymru's underated charms and is six miles from England. A great base for the recently renamed Brecon Beacons National Park, and with its own mountains(the Blorenge,Skirrid Fawr and the Sugar Loaf) nearby, the town's real jewel in the crown is the thrice weekly market. A full range of stalls can be found here. A general cheesemongers, fishmongers, bakers, sewing, fruit and veg, butchers and electrical stalls are always present, whilst there are also some you would struggle to find in other such markets like travelling antique dealers, music, Welsh paraphernalia, and a Carribbean hot food merchant. The "general" market is held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, whilst the hall is host to a flea market every Wednesday. However my top tip is to visit on a Tuesday as this is when it's most busy and it stretches outside, which does not so much on Friday. Monmouthshire council closes the nearest car park to the hall on Tuesday to accommodate as many stalls as possible. The market is extremely popular with coach parties. There was one in from close to where I live so clearly it is popular and envious with many from all over Britain. Don't forget to visit the high street as well where national chain shops and services blend well with local traders, charity shops and eateries.

    Almost everything you need.
Pity it's in Wales, but if one lived here it would probably be possible to get all one needed from the market plus a few local independents, without ever having to go to a supermarket. This would be a far better way of living, no self service tills, no hunting for a till to take cash. Cash is king.

The market held on a Tuesday is very popular with stalls inside and out. Seemed to be less fresh produce then last time I went.

We went to the widely advertised and promoted Abergavenny Christmas Market, expecting the usual Christmas market that you see everywhere else e.g. wooden huts in the streets selling gifts, food such as bratwurst / waffles/ hot filled rolls/ other street food, mulled wine, warm spiced ciders etc and what did we get? So disappointed to see just the usual indoor market, nothing else! Nothing outside at all. What a complete disappointment to see just the usual indoor market with various Christamassy goods instead of their usual products. If I could I'd report the council or Visit Abergavenny for false advertising! Cardiff has a good one so will keep going there instead. Maybe the council and the organisers should visit it as well to see how it's done.

A packed and varied market - one of Wales’ best - which stretches through the main market building and out the back door, descending the steps and heading back almost as far as Morrisons. We attended the Tuesday retail market, and the offerings were wide ranging - a music stall, numerous food stalls including a grocer’s, a butcher’s lorry complete with demonstrations and an excellent baker, offering lots of treats you’ll have a hard time finding anywhere else - I went for the chocolate orange brownie, which was heavy but delightfully moreish. Elsewhere, the other stall fare included a Singaporean street food place, while there were some bargains to be had on the bulk buy and cut-price cupboard-filler stalls. Of course, the tat that only a grandmother would love also got its fair share of representation too. With different market types on different days of the week, making multiple visits is near essential, and you get to enter one of Abergavenny’s most iconic buildings in order to do so.
