Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stone science is quite the destination in many different ways.
Firstly it’s like a time capsule.. so much of it looks like it’s been sitting out for decades untouched. As well as the stone science, on the way round you will find many random relics.. the IBM computer from the 80s/90s and the teddy audience watching the blank tv. You’ll also find an overly predictable dusty layer around the displays.
Secondly it is everything everywhere all at once. There is no chronological or educational sense to any of it, though there are undeniably special pieces throughout. It’s just it’s all so jumbled and messy you don’t really know what you are looking at at any time.
You often don’t know if you are looking at fact or fiction .. this was best exemplified by ‘the cave experience’ where you wander out to a little outdoor ledge where you are presented with a cave painting and a set of human remains. There is very little to explain them so you are left wondering exactly what you are looking at.
If you get a chance, read the review by Gareth M who reviewed in 2012 … it cannot be better explained than he did … creasing myself because it’s so salient but funny as well. For ref if you ever get to read this Gareth… the blue tarpaulin is still hanging with the solitary jellyfish :)
Just to say, there is clearly real passion here as well. You don’t gather all that material for nothing, so I don’t want to sound too flippant. However, to be of any real use, they need somebody to modernise and organise their displays

This is honestly the best museum I have visited I absolutely loved the whole experience. I was disappointed with The Natural History Museum as it is too modern and computerised for my liking this is a 'real' museum, brimming with things to look at fantastic displays and murals on the walls. I could have stayed all day long. My partner and I ended up watching an enjoyable vintage dinosaur T. V show for nearly an hour in a quirky little T. V/cinema space. This is a great museum for kids and adults alike. it is a great price and if you keep your receipt you can revisit within 2 weeks for free which is really generous. The couple who own the museum are really lovely and are extremely knowledgeable, they clearly love their museum and their passion shines through. The gift shop there is gorgeous with so many unusual crystals and fossils to buy at really fair prices, so be prepared to spend some money. I highly recommend visitingit as it is (excuse the pun) a real hidden gem!

A great find! Certainly worth visiting this well established personal collection of rocks, fossils and other rare geological artefacts.
The staff and gentleman whose collection it is, are all incredibly knowledgeable and took the time out to explain and chat to us regarding items we found particularly interesting. Our 8 year old daughter found it very interesting.
It’s a cross between an old university lecturer’s office (upstairs) and a small museum FULL where you can touch some of the finds. The shop is excellent too and was very popular!
Worth a visit.

I can't believe that I have never heard of this place before! We went on a friend's recommendation for a rainy day activity and it did not disappoint. Our boys are 7 and 4 and we easily spent a good hour and a half looking around all the fabulous fossils, bones and crystals (then another 20 minutes in the shop trying to decide what to buy). Clearly a couples passion that they have kindly opened up to share with us.

A great little gem of a find. From crystals. Stones. Fossils. Jewellery. Books and much more in the little shop. To a little museum on 2 floors filled with artifacts and the history from the dinosaur age. Lots to explore and learn. Great for the kids. The people that run it certainly know their stuff. Very friendly and lovely and had time to chat to the kids too. They even posted what we accidentally left behind, a couple of shop purchases to us for FREE. This made one young girl happy again. Certainly worth visiting again and again.

We arrived just meaning to visit the shop but our boys were soon hooked and eager to learn more which led us to visiting the museum too.
I realised once we arrived that I'd actually visited here as a child myself. Although it hasn't changed much over the years this just adds to the charm. Informative, fun and quirky! The dinosaur poo was very popular!
The staff definitely made our visit by engaging with the children and getting them involved.
I now have two little boys refusing to sleep as they just want to play with their stones 😂
Lovely little day out!

Stone Science museum was recommended to me by a friend and I'm so glad I listened to her! This place is brewing with inspiration and passion for natural sciences. It is the perfect place for students of all ages and anyone with an interest in learning about the world we live in. A great experience for children as they can interact with some exhibits and the museum is visually pleasing with a high attention to detail. I am inspired by what I have seen, and have bought a few books to further my knowledge. The staff were super cool, and made the day even more wonderful :-) Thanks so much for engaging with us and teaching us some interesting facts!
I would also like the add that there is an abundant amount of things for sale in the shop. Excited to have an awesome dinosaur fossil in my house, geode fragments, some interesting books and an interactive rock analysis kit.
