A beautiful walk for anyone who can manage it. The initial slope is tough if you aren’t fit and used to hiking, but can be managed if you take your time. The walk around the lake has some ups and downs too, so be careful. But having said all that, the natural beauty of the whole walk is well worth the effort. There are resting places and benches at various points also. If you take your time, you can manage a loop around the lake and back down the steep path in less than three hours. Well worth it.

Sadly this, like so many other places, is becoming over-run with visitors. Beautiful peaceful lake where i would visit often for tranquillity and calm, now a days it can be quite busy

Take care for the first 10 to 15 minutes, very steep and slippery this time of year. Its worth it though, lovely view of the lake and Snowdonia mountains

I walked up to Llyn Elsi with my dog and enjoyed the steep climb up. It was nice to find two quite different routes to and from the town.

We took the Jubilee Path up to Lyn Elsi which has a quite well hidden entrance by a bus stop between the pottery shop and The Dragon chinese restaurant on the left hand side jist as you drive out of the village. There are some steps which soon lead to a fairly steep path, and there are some tricky bits so it probably wouldn't be suitable for very young children or those not up for a more challenging walk!

It's easy enough to follow the path, and then you get to a junction where you the need to head left. This heads up through the hill and is quite tough in places, but when you get near the top the views over Betws-y-Coed are amazing and well worth it. You then pick up the main path up to the lake, which looks great on a nice day and has some good views and interesting points. We then headed back down to the centre of Betws-y-Coed but the views this way are not so great, I'm definitely glad we took the Jubilee Path on the way up.

It took us about 2 hours and we were going at a decent pace.

There are so many routes up it's well worth consulting a map first, some of the lesser known paths are very interesting and take you on a magical mystery tour through the depths of the forest. It's more short Sunday afternoon stroll territory than a full on hike, anyone of reasonable fitness should find it moderately easy. It's part of the vast Gwydir forest which is a mecca for trail running and has hosted the World Mountain Running Champs and Ultra Trail Running Champs in recent years. I walk and run up here regularly as I live just down the road in Colwyn Bay, it never gets old.

We walked from Bettws y Coed and found the steep path to this beautiful quiet lake amongst the mountains of Snowdonia. We sat ate our sandwiches whilst drinking in the serenity of this hidden gem.
