About
Located in the beautiful village of Betws-y-Coed adjacent to the main station, the Conwy Valley Railway Museum is a must for all that enjoy railways. Our miniature railway takes you on a 8 minute trip around the beautifully landscaped grounds. If you are lucky you may see wild rabbits grazing by the pond! Trains run most days, in the season and every weekend there will be a steam engine pulling the train*. At other times a diesel engine will be in service. Dogs are allowed into our museum and on our trains.

Extremely rude ladies in the shop. They have expensive trains sat on a shelf in the middle of the shop where you have to stand to pay. My Dad (75) turned and accidently knocked one of the boxes onto the floor with his rucksack. The lady accused my 3 year old Grandson of touching everything and of breaking the train and procceded to make my dad pay for the item. I spoke to the lady and said you shouldn't have expensive things sat piled up on a shelf so close to where people are queueing but she just ignored me. My daughter went in to complain and they were really rude to her, she spoke to the shop owner on the phone and he was equally as rude and said his staff are well trained. The lady in the shop then got on the phone to her boss and told him that the child was running around the shop and was touching everything and knocked the item off the shelf. Which was a blatent lie! Obviously hate children but they are encouraging them into the shop with children's toys everywhere and making money out of selling children's toys. They need to make their mind up if they want train enthusiasts or children. Obvious from other comments these ladies are rude and don't like children!!

DONT PARK IN THEIR CAR PARK as you will get fined even if you pay for parking.

In regards to the museum itself I described it as "the saddest looking little railway I've ever seen"
This place needs a lot of TLC.

I knew there was a little train somewhere and is sneakily tucked away behind the proper train station. Staff very helpful both in the shop and on the train. Allowed us to park the pram in the shop while we went on the train. Awesome little train carriage for the kids to drive too, £1 per go. Highly recommend for the little ones

We have been visiting the little railway, yearly, for over 40 years when our children were small. Always a delightful treat, which we carried on after the children had grown up and flown the nest… as we’re still young at heart! Always lovely to see the same welcoming train driver , who was lovely with all children. However- this year after making the journey, my husband was in need of the toilet before going on the train, asked in the shop if he might use the loo in the museum first… to be told no! As he’d used the facilities many times over the years he thought the lady was joking- but she was deadly serious advising him he’d have to go over the mainline bridge into Betwys y coed. Needless to say on his return to the car and told me this … my reaction… it’s the last time we come here! As the attraction brings a lot of families with small children, how are they to cope with urgencies for the toilet? An oversight by the new owners I think!!!?Also - there is now a charge for the car park of a minimum of £2 for an hour. Such a shame things have changed here… we won’t be returning.

Stopped here in the village for about 2 hours on coach trip from Yorkshire on Wed 17th Feb 2022, across the bridge is a shop and museum selling mainly trains like Hornby and train related books and Airfix kits. There is a museum through the back costing £1.50 senior and £2.00 adults. It contains several railway layouts mainly of North Wales and Liverpool which opens out to a wider area with more layouts and train related signs and memorabilia.
Outside there are mini train rides in the warmer months but not open in February. There is a cafe inside a train carriage we had a nice bacon sandwich and drink.

We’re local and come here often but always avoid this shop at all costs, it’s dirty, overpriced, not been updated for 30 years and the owners are rude and just dislike children, as they always have been and will never change. Yesterday she shouted at my 1 year old son for playing with a little car that we were about to purchase. She told me “the tires of the car will get dirty”. I told her don’t worry I won’t buy it then and walked off. It was a cheap car worth £1 max that they were selling for £5.99 and had back plastic wheels for god sake. Tell you what try actually cleaning the floor! Imagine!

Last train from Conwy Valley?
I had the misfortune to try and take a ride on the miniature railway situated next to the main line station at Betws-Y-Coed on Monday afternoon 1st November.
I stood patiently in the shop whilst a woman behind the counter chatted about nothing in general with what transpired to be the train driver. After a break in the conversation I politely enquired if the train was leaving relatively soon or was there a specific time? The woman sighed wearily as if I, the only customer would have the temerity to ask such a question!
“You need to buy tickets!” She snapped.
I replied that I was expecting to do that and wondered if I was in the correct place to do so?
She grunted “£5“and continued to chat to the driver. I took out my credit card whereby she paused momentarily in her conversation to snap “credit card for £5?” I put my card on the contactless machine and she tossed two small old fashioned tickets, rather in keeping with the railway; at me.
She immediately continued her chat with the driver.
As I exited towards my wife stood in the doorway- my wife came into the shop and said “ I work in hospitality and you are so rude to customers, we try to support little places like this but you’re so rude you don’t deserve custom”
I returned to the counter and tossed my tickets back to her swallowing the £5 and left the shop saying “ you’ll be shut this time next year!”
Customer service is not a priority at this establishment. We adjourned to the coffee shop across the real railway station and watched as two youngsters climbed aboard for the short ride around the station in the miniature railway. Shame!
