I've been working in the Outdoor Industry for more than 20 years and set up Paul Poole Mountaineering based in Llanberis, Snowdonia, North Wales to share my love of the mountains with others. I offer rock climbing, scrambling and mountaineering courses in summer and winter in both Wales, Scotland and adventures overseas, to places like Morocco and the Himalaya. I also run Summer and Winter Navigation courses, Mountain Leader Award / Rock Climbing Instructor Courses and Refreshers.

I booked with Paul last minute for my ML assessment. It lead to such a great week away in snowdonia with a brilliant group of people. Paul and his team put us all at ease straight away creating the perfect atmosphere to learn and preform. He has a wealth of knowledge in the mountains, which he eagerly shares with you. I cannot recommend him enough and would be sure to send anyone his way. I wish I could do the course again!

Paul and his team have unique skills in making you feel completely relaxed. Enabling you to learn and perform to the best of your ability. Great people and a great environment to learn in. I recently did my ML Assessment with Paul and Matt. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to spend more time in the outdoors wanting to progress and enjoy!

Just completed my ML assessment with Paul and Pete. I didn't think you could learn and laugh so much during an assessment... but we certainly did! They both instantly put you at ease with their calming approach and brought out the best in all of us. I've done my ML training, contour masterclass (Really recommend this!) and ML assessment through Paul Poole and wouldn't use anyone else!

Just back from a great course with Paul in Scotland where he taught us how to "survive" in the Cairngorms! The course was well-paced and I liked how he "dripped" the instruction in throughout the day. We were well-briefed and given a wealth of information before, during and after the course. It was not my first time in crampons but I still felt like I learnt so much. A must-do for any moutaineer/walker who wants to get into winter.

I absolutely recommend Paul Poole Mountaineering! We spent two days practising lead rope skills in a slate quarry in Llanberis and on micro-diorite near Llandudno. I have climbed outside previously but always relied on more experienced climbers to set up a top rope anchor and clear the equipment afterwards, but now I feel confident and safe enough to do these myself and be less reliant on other people. I learnt a lot with Paul and had an amazing couple of days in North Wales.

A fabulous day, in an amazing setting, traversing the Snowdon Horseshoe including the 'mighty' Crib Goch ridge! We'd been planning to cover this route ourselves for some time but were slightly deterred by the many reports of how challenging it could be both physically & mentally, particularly if you're not that comfortable with heights.
Our entire day was blessed with perfect weather conditions & together with Paul's expert knowledge & experience of the route & of the mountains in general, we always felt safe & comfortable under his guidance. Paul gave us enough space to appreciate the Crib Goch 'experience' at our own pace whilst always being close at hand for the more difficult /challenging sections or to offer moral support if required.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a day out exploring what is arguably Snowdonia's best walking / scrambling route

I can absolutely recommend Paul Poole Mountaineering! Having undertaken a couple of training days with Paul earlier in the year which were both enjoyable and informative I decided to book my ML Assessment for this summer. Despite my being somewhat apprehensive, Paul and Pete's relaxed style put me at ease and allowed me to demonstrate my skills with confidence. The assessment was an enjoyable experience from start to end and in addition to achieving an ML pass, I came away having had a memorable and informative experience.

I did my ML Assessment with Paul, and I would definitely recommend. Paul was unfortunately unwell during the week so didn't actually come out on the hill with us, but he planned and ran things efficiently, and the Assessors he appointed were friendly and professional. Paul and the team generated a really relaxed and supportive atmosphere, with an emphasis on continued learning and skills development. Recommended if you're considering working towards a qualification.

A fabulous 4 days spent with Paul Poole scrambling through some of Snowdonia's best mountain routes. Paul's knowledge, experience & warm nature immediately inspire confidence & allow for a relaxed & highly enjoyable mountain adventure. Despite having no previous climbing experience, with Paul's guidance & careful instruction, I was soon tackling routes that I never imagined I'd have either the skill or confidence to achieve. A highly recommended experience from an extremely accomplished professional.

Really down to earth guys, made it a really enjoyable process right from the start. Paul's passion and experience really shines through, and has got me excited about the future and the adventures ahead.
