About
The fortress sprawls over a huge area making it the largest castle in Wales. Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly. It dominates. Hogs the limelight. Think slumbering giant awaiting a call to arms. It's also a great backdrop for TV and film. It secured a starring role recently in the popular BBC TV series Merlin. The displayed opening times are our general pattern. Please check the Cadw website for specific times and days, including closures.

The whole cast was beautiful and the sights were fantastic and informative. There were plenty of signs explaining all the rooms and antiquities with plenty of information to learn. The dragon story was also lovely to here. I could have spent hours looking at the lake as well.
Staff were lovely and helpful.

Really enjoyed the trip to Caerphilly castle. It is a very grand castle with a pretty moat around the outside. It is picture perfect (aside from the current works to the gatehouse). The leaning tower was super cool to see, as were the medieval weapons. It was nice to walk around the castle and see all of the rooms and towers. The only slightly disappointing part is that there isn’t that much information about the rooms/castle areas which is a shame. There is also no cafe on site so you have to get lunch/coffee/snacks in the town.

Currently undergoing major restoration works so you are unable to access the rooftop. They do give you a free guide book in compensation though, which is a nice touch.

It’s an interesting and impressive castle. Some of the gatehouse display rooms are too dark to see the castle models in the display cases though.

I appreciate the works that are ongoing but does there really have to be temporary site fencing or concrete ballast blocks just about anywhere you might want to take a photo?

There is a good display of siege machines but it would be nice to know if they get used for demonstrations on busier days.

We visited on Easter Monday. Free parking nearby. £33 for - family ticket. There was a free Easter trail for the children to complete and they received a small chocolate egg at the end.
The castle is impressive and in places in good condition still. There were signs around explaining the history but not a lot of information for children apart from the new signs by the trebuchets.
It would have been nice to see some more rooms laid out as they might have been.
There are plans in place for a visitor centre.

There was a lovely man at the entrance that checked us in, friendly and full of great information regarding the castle.

We highly enjoyed our visit exploring Caerphilly Castle. The castle was built in the 13th century, it is the largest castle in Wales and the second largest in the UK. By far one of the best castles we have ever visited.

Price depends on the time of year that you visit 1 October to 31 March (the time of our visit) it cost 9₤ per adult, there are various discounts offered, all listed on their website.

We only arrived as it was closing, so we only walked around the outside which was still worth it. Very cool that they have colored lights on it at night!

A fantastic example of what a castle should be - well preserved and full of history!

We've been meaning to visit for a while and made sure to stop on our latest visit to Cardiff, and we were not disappointed.

Though lacking in time, and hampered by the weather, we managed to see and learn lots here, and would love to come back and do it properly another day

Incredible experience. Loads of rooms to view. History of the castle is astonishing. Staff are welcoming. Good gift shop too.

The steps going up the castle are very small so I wouldn't recommend going up the steps if you struggle to walk due to the risk. However there are lots too see regardless.

Great place to visit, even on a grey day. So much of the castle is still accessible and gives people a great insight into castle times! Make sure to have a wander outside the castle in the park as well. Excellent place for kids, especially the dragon pit!

What a beautiful castle to visit with stunning views from all around.it cost us £9 each and there was plenty to see.sadly we only had an hour as they were closing for lunch 1 til 2,we could have gone back the same day but it was a quick stop on the way home. Definitely needed another hour to have a proper look around.would definitely recommend for the price 👍
