Come here regularly with the family and visiting friends. It is a must see for anyone visiting the area.
Although free, with a small payment just for parking, I’d highly recommend donating what you can to make this living museum continually grow. The new historical pub actually serves alcohol too, a nice touch for a pint with your visit

Good free activity for a day with decent weather. Lots of buildings from various eras to see. Various activities for children. Food at cafes is overpriced and nothing special but there is a bakery (good, good prices) and fish and chips spot (closed when I was there - April weekday). Nice giftshop too. Bus 32 can drop you off right there but stops running well before the museum closes so you'll need another way back if you're not leaving early. The walk google maps sent me on for the next nearest bus was not particularly pedestrian friendly.

So much to see! Lots of old buildings from across Wales rebuilt on the museum site along with a few reconstructions based on archaeological evidence (such as the Iron Age roundhouse). My only regret is that because of bus times I ended up missing quite a bit of what's there - you'd really need a full day to appreciate this place even with a short attention span like mine!

A great experience enjoyed by young and old alike. As well as visiting the various historical buildings erected here from around Wales don’t miss the castle with its water features and gardens.
Free to enter and the cafe served home cooked food at reasonable prices. You do pay for car parking (£7 for the day) but great value.

An absolute must for any age to visit. The history of Welsh life and you do NOT need to be Welsh to appreciate this museum. It takes you through the ages of life, walking through cottages of the decades and seeing how life developed. To a Victorian School and Chapel and my favourite “the Shop and Bakery”. We went into the Vulcan pub we saw get taken down in Cardiff and re built here and you can actually go in and have a pint. A wonderful place. We have been visiting here for years and last week, while our son was home from Uni decided to go again and it’s still wonderful. So much to see, so many grounds to walk around and for the kids to run free. I do feel that although it is fantastic that these places are now free we could see how much work needed doing here and couldn’t help thinking that maybe the children should go free for education purposes but every adult pays £1. Nobody would argue £1 and that could raise thousands for the maintenance of these beautiful, old, historic places that we need to keep open.

An excellent day out with lots to see. It took us a long time to get around the open air museum so unfortunately didn’t have time to visit the exhibitions inside. It was £7 to park but entry was free, making it great value. There is a cafe and gift shop which were a little expensive but the staff we met were pleasant and informative. I would recommend and if I am ever in the area would visit again.

Before you set out if going by bus from Cardiff, make sure about the return one. The last one left St Fagans at 3:00 and there was no way to get back any other way. Since the bus to this wonderful museum left late morning (there may have been another earlier), we wished we had had more time, especially to explore the gardens. That said, it was a fascinating time there and we learned much we hadn't known about Welsh history all the way up to the 1950s through a wide variety of dwellings moved to the vast space—residential, farm, governmental (a tollhouse from the 1700s) and commercial. There's a lovely cafe and shop. Plus very helpful staff.

Here on holiday just looking for something to do for the day, thought I’d check out St Fagans on a whim and wow… what a fabulous place!

Spent a good 1.5 hours in the main building’s Wales Is… and Life Is… exhibits, I’m a history nerd (especially ancient stuff) and there were loads of fascinating artefacts from all over Wales here. Learnt loads about the history of Wales.

I then headed off out to see the Iron Age roundhouses (couldn’t go in as they were being repainted, but I enjoyed strolling round the outside), a replica of Llewelyn the Great’s keep, and an old farm with chickens and Welsh pigs. I also went into the workshop where they have a huge artisan exhibition with sections on woodwork, pottery, basketry, black smithing, etc. More ancient items here, too, including Celtic decorative metalwork and an ancient bronze fire dog that would have taken 3 years to make (!)

All of this is set within lovely woodland, so you get to enjoy a pleasant walk in between exhibits (wear comfy shoes). I don’t honestly know how you’re meant to fit it all in within a day, I was there for about 4 hours and barely scratched the surface. But I’ll be glad to come again and see the rest!

Once my feet were sore, I headed to the main cafe for a drink, the ladies there made me a lovely hot chocolate (I agree, the chocolate honeycomb sprinkles are fire!)

In short, it has everything my introvert heart adores: museums, art, history, a lovely quiet stroll, and great hot chocolate. When can I move in?

Probably the best thing to do in Cardiff, especially now The Vulcan is open. This is a great place for all ages and we usually visit when we are back home, irrespective of weather or season. Entry is free and the car park charges are not extortionate, and it is also a great place for buying Welsh souvenirs / gifts.

One can spend an entire day on the grounds learning about very early Welsh history and the settlement of the area in and around Cardiff. Many of the buildings have artisans dressed in period attire who are happy to explain what life was like for the early settlers. There is a bakery and a church with interesting frescos on the walls. St. Fagans is best experienced when it's not raining!
