Stays fresh for re-visits. When the sun is shining a visit makes for a great day out, usually you stumble across something that you haven't seen before. Apart from the old buildings here, include the "Castle" and grounds as well as the exhibit galleries in the entry building.
And there's the Vulcan. Used to drink in there 40 years ago so please finish it soon and get the beer flowing again, it served a cracking Dark and SA. Makes you feel old though when a favoured boozer is an exhibit. But, as a Cardiff lad it's pleasing to see that it still exists.
There are quite a few picnic tables dotted around so usually find one or there is a restaurant, a chippy and a cafe on site.

A great day out. This is a really well laid-out, well presented place. There are so many buildings to see & being well spaced-out you need to give yourself enough time to see it & you may want to take snacks & have a rest from the walking.
Some fascinating stories go with the buildings you will see, not all are Welsh themed, there is a good balance that anyone from anywhere will enjoy. I liked the "houses through time" ones (1940's, 50's etc...) particularly.
Even the most jaded teenager will get something out of this, even if (like my son) they won't admit to it!!

We loved touring St. Fagans, especially on a beautiful day in Cardiff. So much history, beautifully preserved. Highly recommend - lots of space for children to run around!

Amazing museum which gives a real sense of what living in Wales and the Uk was like through the ages. We loved that you have access to almost every building with very little out of bounds to the public.

A fantastic countryside gem only a short bus ride from the centre of the city. Catch the number 32A bus from Westgate Street for £3.60 return and enjoy a great time (I'd say allow 3 hours). Entrance is free but it's well worth buying a map on the way in for only 50p and available in both English and Cymraeg.

We visited this week and had such a lovely day. There is so much there which is amazing as entry is free. You pay £6 for the car park which seems a small price for such a great day out. We loved the castle and grounds, and the members of staff were very helpful with informative facts about the buildings. The fish and chips were really nice and worth a stop for lunch.

Came here on Bank Holiday Monday. When we saw how full the Car Park was, we were dreading going in, but the place is huge, so it never felt crowded. We spent over 4 hours here and still didn't get to see more than half of what's here. So, we'll definitely be coming back, but next time we're bringing a picnic - Food/Drink prices were a bit eye watering!

We brought our young grandson along for a visit here. We really enjoyed the museum and taking in our culture from years ago. We then walked around the old houses which was interesting and there was an old church, school, post office etc to look at. There was a small fun fair here too. We were slightly disappointed that there were not many farm animals on show. There were sheep kept in some pens at the old farm and three pigs in an old stable which was quite dark.

Plan on bringing my dog as we are stopping in on the way to our holiday home - are they allowed in the indoor museums if they are in a doggy rucksack? Or is it strictly assistance dogs only?

We will be without the car so would be grateful if you could advise the options for getting from Cardiff city centre to the museum?
StFagans
Cardiff, UK6 contributions
You can catch the Easyway bus direct to the Museum from Westgate Street, Cardiff city centre. This costs £3.60 return. Please note, the last bus leaves the Museum to return to the city centre at 4.30pm.

What's the ground like for walking around? Is it grass or gravel? Just for what footwear would be best, thanks

Tarmac paths around and mainly flat so easy access if got pushchairs or wheelchairs. It is spread out over a large area although there are benches dotted around. But comfortable trainers or sandals or whatever depending on the weather really.
Are dogs allowed?
Deb H
Cowbridge, UK21 contributions
Yes. But they're not allowed inside the buildings. Not a problem - you just need to take it in turns to look at the exhibits whilst someone does doggy-sitting duty. Well worth a visit. Hope this helps.
