Booked at short notice for a 3pm meal and what a marvellous experience. Very COVID-19 aware and despite the restaurant being full there was not a huge waiting time between order & service. Three course meal with starters of Leek & Coriander soup with enough crusty bread👍 Pate with enough toast and delicious chutney Main course of Turkey with all the trimmings- the red cabbage with apple & spices was an excellent addition - together with a separate 👍 dish of carrots and onion, cauliflower cheese and cranberry sauce. Separate sauce boat of extra gravy was a nice touch too. Strange times though not being able to order wine or other alcohol because of the COVID restrictions but of course able to order soft drinks. Dessert was poached pear with raspberries in a special sauce which went down very well and I had the cheese slate which was substantial. I was a bit picky about which cheeses were on the slate as I didn’t want any Blue or Stilton and very considerately offered another portion of either Brie or Caerphilly. The slate was laden with enough different crackers , cucumber sticks and a very nice chutney to make a difference. Would heartily recommend and would not hesitate in coming again. Congratulations to all concerned in making this a meal to remember

Truly a wonderful experience. This should be compulsory for all history students at school to attend. The presentation was marvellous and Tony our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. A must see if in the Rhonda Valley.

We wanted to visit a former coal mining community as we are interested in this subject. We booked up for the tour and we weren't disappointed. The tour is hosted by an ex miner who can answer any questions you have on the subject. The tour is great value for money and is good for both adults and kids. We both enjoyed it and came away thankful that our jobs are a lot easier than the miners had to put up with.

Booked over the telephone, simple! Plenty of parking and hassle free registering at reception with a very friendly receptionist. As we were early we had a meal in the cafe, which was clean, with good tasty food. We then met our tour guide ex miner John who was friendly and knowledgeable. He allowed us plenty of time in all areas to take pictures and ask questions...he was very patient! Fascinating tour of how the miners worked in very cramp, dangerous conditions, really made us appreciate how hard it was for them. Thank you John. Highly recommend, good value for money

Just visited recently -the site is well set-up for Covid protection measures (one family/bubble at a time on the trip). Grahame our tour guide had been a miner from a young age working in 4 different pits and his knowlege and experience shone through. He was able to give us lots of information about the site and history and, when asked, shared some of his own life experiences of being a miner - brilliant stories! Would recomend this for children as well as adults - deeply powerful experience for the younger ones who, had they been born just a single generation before, may have very well been miners themselves. The hardships faced and overcome by so many men in order for industry to thrive really makes you think and be grateful for the lives we lead now.
