Great walk around bay to the barrage. The barrage has information about it construction and purpose etc. I visited the barrage during / before construction as a student and it was interesting to see how the area has changed over the last 20 years. I have to say the predictions of a smelly, stagnant body of water haven't come true... More

We have visited the Barrage since it was first constructed. In the begining it was very basic, you could only walk so far before you had to turn around and head back to Penarth. Now however it has been completely transformed with the attractions like The Doctor Who experience, bike hire and a skate-park for the younger generation. It is also now possible to walk... Being Cardiff born and bred results in great shame when I say I have never walked from the City Centre to the barrage before. Well I did yesterday. I wracked up a whopping 27,000 steps on my FitBit because the other half thought it was a great idea to get some New Year air. I saw more than I would... More

Took a walk across the barrage from Cardiff to Penarth. Thought it would be strenuous but it turned out to be a delightful stroll with magnificent views across the bay to Cardiff and also to the sea. We were lucky to have a clear sunny day in January so the experience was enhanced with clear blue skies and sunshine though... More

Love this place, one of my favourite places to go, especially during the summer! It's got lovely views! Such a stunning walk, there's also a path running down into Cardiff bay, there's skate park and an outside gym along the path, was an ice cream and food place too which was nice and not over priced :) highly recommend to... This is a great little niche of local businesses and also a nice refreshing walk on either a sunny or wintery day providing it's not raining. There's also a boat you can get back to the car park if not wanting to walk back

A lovely walk from Cardiff Bay to Penarth or vice versa that we've done so many times. Walk, cycle, jog, get the grandparents to push you in the buggy, stop for a picnic, learn about Captain Scott and the Terra Nova, watch the barrage rise to let the boats through and sail back on a water taxi.

This barrage was engineered to turn a tidal bay into a massive freshwater lake so a huge residential and leisure complex could be built alongside it. It's a lovely walk from the cute seaside town of Penarth to Cardiff bay itself. There's spots to picnic but it was too cold today.

The visitor to the barrage can park on either the Cardiff or Penarth side with ample, cheqap parking. Also it is possible to catch a water taxi from eithe rht ehCardiff or Penarth sides. On our visit it was very busy with a large nuber of boats and small crft traveling through the lock.
