- GwladerLondon, United Kingdom141 contributionsBuzzing Indoor MarketVisit here every time in Cardiff, just love browsing all the stalls. Morgan the butcher is family run and has been there from the start, always order my Welsh lamb, sausages, steaks you name it and bring back with me. Stalls selling Welsh cakes, fresh bread, fruit and veg. Retro gents clothing from days gone by, sewing, books, nick - nacks, cobblers and tea shops selling all day breakfasts. A must see.Visited November 2022Written 18 December 2022
- Patric DSandbach, United Kingdom945 contributionsMarket and Arcades! You really need to explore both the indoor market and the surrounding shopping arcades in and around St Mary Street. Full of interesting independent shops and a lot of nostalgia in the overall architecture. Great on a wet and/or cold dayVisited January 2023Written 14 January 2023
- therichastillStevenage, United Kingdom2,521 contributionsSparsely PopulatedIn the Cardiff City Centre there is a large indoor market and it is a very grand building. There are many different things you can buy including fresh fish, clothing, candles and street food. Unfortunately when I visited not all the stalls were occupied. Real shame, I hope more local businesses will find a place there.Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 30 March 2023
- felixflorianLondon, United Kingdom51 contributionsvery traditional feel, great food for excellent value for money!we stayed 2 nights in Cardiff and came every morning to get our breakfast fix here. The Bakestones and Tea Pot Cafe were the places we had our food from. The tea pot Cafe had Faggot which i really enjoyed and the lady was so friendly and honest. Loved it.Visited April 2023Written 17 April 2023
- packedandready2go933 contributionsGood place to puy traditional Welsh cakes. This is an old traditional market with a lot of stalls. The one business that makes a visit extra worth while is the bakery where they crank out delicious traditional Welsh cakes and scones and bread pudding for reasonable prices. This stall can be found in the middle of the market.Visited May 2023Written 20 May 2023
- mariandyelbLeighton Buzzard, United Kingdom37 contributionsWorth a visitGood variety of stalls, selling all different things it's an everyday market ie fruit, veg, fish, meat etc only one stall selling Welsh cheese and only 2 with Welsh cakes one more popular than the other :-) . Lots of places to eat and drink at reasonable prices, comfortable to walk round. The building is Victorian 1891, do look at the website before you go so you get an idea as to how the market is set out . Ideal place to visit if its raining and you are fed up with ordinary shopping centresVisited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 May 2023
- Nelgumford336 contributionsLike a hidden magical world of commerceNew to the city, we only went into the market to get out of the rain. It turned out to me like a magical world of commerce, hidden from the modern day. On top of that it has an eating bench around the balcony where one can eat your sandwiches while taking in the marvel below. And there are toilets.Visited July 2023Written 11 July 2023

We had a v decent bacon bap from the little cafe in the corner(really lovely staff). - Bertie1224Northamptonshire, United Kingdom487 contributionsA cacophony of sights and smellsSlightly reminiscent of the Budapest indoor market with an upstairs area too. Lots of wonderful food stalls and also the usual market stalls. We tried the Welsh cakes. Very nice. The production line for the scones was amazing. They must shift tonnes! The fish stall at an entrance is a smell to behold. This is a fascinating place to spend a few minutes just wandering and taking it all in.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 August 2023
- Vivienne B6 contributionsMarvellous marketA lovely Victorian market somewhat like Covent Garden in London. Fun to wander around even if you are not self catering. Buy the Welsh cakes! Skip the queue at the Welsh cake stall and go to the bakery. Her Welsh cakes are made that day and no queues. Delicious. Pop upstairs had have a fabulous well priced pizza.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 September 2023

We love the market and it is brilliant when you can buy a takeaway and eat upstairs on the balcony. Plenty of choices for lunch. We often have freshly made Welsh cakes for breakfast. The queue is very long at lunchtime. The Thai stall serves up excellent, authentic n reasonably priced Thai food. There is a good fish stall. Strongly recommended for lunches.

This place is really worth a walk around. Situated in the heart of Cardiff I can imagine in years gone by it would have been the place to shop.
You could buy just about anything here, from a button, to a hat, to a rib of beef!!! All good quality and reasonable prices.

Brilliant spot in the heart of the city for food and much more. Particular favourite lunch spot is Sage Deli, or if having a treat the Pizza place upstairs. Some really interesting independent clothes shops, etc, there too. Definitely worth a visit.

Friday 20th October and we walked around this Victorian built indoor market which opened in 1891.
The most striking feature of the Market is the apex roof which comprises of glass, wood and metal. So definitely would taking a few moments to have a look upwards.
The Market is filled with a variety of stalls, Butchers, Fruiterers, Poulterers, Bakers, Cake makers and do much more.
On our way round we stopped to visit Hatts Vitage Emporium, what an amazing clothing shop. We had a chat with the fascinating ower
In the centre of the Market on top of the first floor offices, stands the four sided clock with a working clock face on each side. The office kiosk is located above Bakestones, the bakery, where people were queuing up the buy cakes and Welsh cakes straight from the griddle. We did purchase some delicious Welsh cakes.
There are further stalls upstairs on the balcony, which is accessed by the two staircases on either side of the entrances. On the wall at the base of both staircases there is a plaque.
One plaque commemorates the Market's centenary in 1991while the other commemorates it's opening in 1891.
As we left the Market, we all agreed that it is so important that places like this are preserved. It was a delightful experience ambling around this wonderful old Market.

A rather worn down market but it is build for local shopping and not to be a tourist spot. I imagine it is a great place to go shopping if you are local but if you are a tourist it is not a place to hang around to hang our.
But good mixture of all the stalls you need for your every day shopping

Always been a highlight of a visit to Cardiff, whilst growing up a wander upstairs to look at all the animals including pups and kittens was amazing, sadly thats now long gone, with it some of the mystique.
However downstairs still well worth a visit for the butcher’s and of course the Welsh cakes, good fruit and veg stalls as well as the great fishmonger’s, a must do

I wanted some laverbread so headed to Cardiff Market where there is one of the best fresh fish stands I have ever been to. Amazing variety and beautiful fresh fish. I live in London and was visiting the area.. just had to do a detour to the market as I knew they'd have what I wanted, and they did!

An awesome little gem in the heart if Cardiff. Multiple stalls from sweets and treats, do lunches and snacks to clothes and jewellery can be found here. The market really has come into its own in recent years and is popular for a reason.
I would absolutely recommend visiting for lunch if you’re ever in the city.
