This is a small group experience under the guidance of, Martin Williams of Outdoor Explore Wales.
On Monday he gave us a great afternoon of paddle boarding at Newton beach Porthcawl. Starting with a short but informative introduction covering safety, weather, tide and sea states we were soon on the sea for a no pressure lesson, paddling along the coast, under Martin’s watchful eye. During the 2hrs or so on the sea he not only encouraged and gently coached the four of us but pointed out sea features and explained how the shape of the coastline, tide and weather affected the character of the water.
This was a really enjoyable half day and Martin a great companion and coach. We’ll definitely join him on further adventures!

Highly recommended! I spent a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon in a small group guided by Martin. Firstly he clearly explained the basics of what to be aware of when sea paddleboarding, then we paddled around the local bays where he continued to give guidance on how to deal with the sea conditions and useful tips on paddling technique, all delivered in a friendly, encouraging manner. The experience was suitable for all levels.

Fantastic experience. Our first outing at Paddleboarding, Martin was a great instructor, very knowledgeable and very patient. Would recommend to anyone who is thinking of trying it to have a go. We will be back!

The sunset paddle with Martin was an awesome trip. Apart from the perfect conditions I felt totally safe on the sea with him so was able to relax fully and enjoy the experience. It was informative as well as fun and felt very personal as it was such a small group. I will definitely be going on another trip and also having a lesson with Martin. Oh and he takes cool photos too 😊

I had a great morning paddling with Martin on the River Taf, learning to navigate the rapids. He was very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. I had an informative and fun trip and would highly recommend!

Martin was an excellent instructor and was very knowledgeable about the local area and surroundings,His 2hr 30min begginers lesson was excellent value for money as was equipment hire etc,would recommend highly

Fantastic experience. We were both novices and after the 2.5 hour lesson were feeling confident, although pretty tired. Had a lovely gentle paddle up the river. Martin told us lots about local history and wildlife as we went. He took loads of photos for us. We enjoyed it so much we are hoping to get us our own boards. He sent us details of what sort of board would be best and offered to give us advice when we find one. Hope to come on another trip soon.
