PLEASE NOTE: That although the business might be shown as open here, we may actually be closed on any particular day. Please scroll down to the first post on the Facebook Page "The Open Boat" daily for the latest operating news. NO BOOKING REQUIRED! The Open Boat 'Daffodil' sails from the Cardiff Waterfront throughout the year weather permitting. Carrying up to a maximum of 11 passengers per trip it's the best way to see Cardiff bay. An informative commentary is given, and there is a lively, fun and friendly atmosphere on board as Daffodil cruises Cardiff Bay out in the fresh air! Warm blankets are provided on cooler days, but remember that Daffodil is an OPEN BOAT so dress accordingly. Each trip lasts approx 20 mins and is ideal if you're on a tight schedule or have small children with you. Pay by CARD on board Daffodil the little GREEN boat, NO NEED TO BOOK in advance, just turn up!

It's was a very enjoyable trip...in fact it has been the best £6 spent ever!!
We enjoyed the ride ..the captain was very informative with his description..charming with his sense of humour.. Definitely will ride again. Thank you for the outstanding service best ride for only £6

We happened upon the Open Boat/Daffodil when we were exploring Cardiff on our first day in town. "Captain Gorgeous" (what he called himself!) invited us to step on board for a 20 minute trip around Cardiff Bay. He welcomed us on board, encouraged us to ask questions, and delighted us with his knowledge and his clear energy/excitement about helping us learn about the Bay. Fun trip, enjoyable information, and a welcome intro to a bay which has been created to help keep Cardiff from flooding!

We stumbled across this tour by chance as we were walking down along the dock and we were not disappointed, the captain is a really nice guy and we had a great time I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting the area

We stopped on the way home from Pembrokeshire to see the Torchwood Water Tower, and decided to take a quick boat trip around the bay. We chose the best captain and boat because we also got a good tour of many Dr Who landmarks. We will definitely be back for more.

Charming cruise around the bay for 20 mins, see a bit of Cardiff from a new angle. Funny, lovely captain provides great commentary. Would highly recommend for all ages, worth the money for sure.

The captain of the boat was very friendly informative, including some jokes/banter, very friendly and he’s been doing this for over 20 years! The 20 minute trip around Cardiff bay marina was lovely

so much fun for a sunny day!
me and one friend fancied boat trip at the bay following a Harry Styles concert. We were not disappointed! Very funny and a very relaxed boat trip.

What an amazing trip. Its a quick 20min trip around the bay. Lots of lovely views, great price and the captain is gas. He has a wonderful personality and is very helpful when it come to how to the city centre. Would highly recommend and it's a great price

I work in a residential home most of our residents have frames to walk would there be somewhere to put there frames if they got on the boat it doesn't have to be on the boat but somewhere safe nearby

Hello there, yes as the previous comment has said, we normally leave walking frames/wheelchairs with the pushchairs on the pontoons which are locked or watched over whilst the boat is on the trip. If the boat is fairly quiet however, we can take them on board with us.

No need to book just turn up. Trips run every 25 mins or so. But do check the Facebook page 'THE OPEN BOAT' before travelling. It's updated daily by 10am stating whether the boat is operating or not that day.

Is the boat accessible for a wheelchair user?

Hello there, it's an old boat so there are a few steps. However we have carried many wheelchair users without problems in the past. If you are able to stand, then with a couple of strong arms nearby we can usually get you on board (there are several handrails). However if you can't leave the chair, then I'm afraid the boat is a bit tricky. I hope to get some pictures put on the website to illustrate the problems soon. Do come and have a go though. We did have a gentleman who slid himself off his chair onto the top step and was then able to access a seat. Anything is possible :-)
