- MachiavellieNorthampton, United Kingdom6 contributionsFun but slightly underwhelmingFun day out but very expensive considering what was on offer. Understandably, a lot of the animals were hiding / asleep. I think we saw five empty enclosures before any animals. The layout could do with some improvement, I wish some attractions had better viewing platforms. You can barely see the monkeys, cats, and crocodiles, which are surely the main attraction. The photo booth wasn’t working and we didn’t get our photos emailed to us as stated. At least the meerkats were friendly and active.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Please let me apologise that you were left a little disappointed with your visit. This is certainly not what we like to hear. We do however appreciate all feedback received and take all comments into consideration Each of our 40+ amazing animals has access to private areas should they want some peace and quiet. We always recommend visiting different animals at various points during your visit for the best chance of seeing them all. I also apologise that the Magic Memories photobooth was not working on the day that you visited. It is very rare for this to happen, and Magic Memories are very supportive in fixing any errors as quickly as possible. Again I am sorry that you did not enjoy your visit but I hope this information helps. Your feedback is vital to us to help develop the venue so I thank you for this.Written 23 February 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 January 2023
- Christine26 contributionsNeeds a total revampTook a 5yr old girl ,she enjoyed it , there wasn't much there ,n I wouldn't class it as a zoo, didn't see any crocodiles, I parrot , 2 tortoises, only 1 meer cat ,1 snake , n a few frogs ! Our 14tr old was bored silly ,so definitely not suitable to over 12,s ? The staff were really nice n friendly, but the place looks very tired n shabby ... we won't be going there again .needsThank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're pleased to hear that the little girl enjoyed, but sorry to hear that you were left feeling a little disillusioned. We are a small, licensed indoor zoo with over 40 different species of animal. Each of our amazing animals has access to private areas should they want some peace and quiet, therefore we always recommend going around a few times for the best chance of seeing them all. We are open every day throughout the year apart from 3 days over Christmas, and 3 days in January where we take care of any large maintenance to the building. All other maintenance takes place as often as possible during our closed hours. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the look of the venue, and will take your comments onboard to see where improvements can be made. Should you wish to discuss your experience with us in person, we would be pleased to hear from you, and can be contacted by phone on 01792 474 555 or by email at plantasia@parkwood-leisure.co.uk Very best wishesWritten 23 February 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2023Written 23 February 2023
- Katie1 contributionTerrible customer serviceI booked a trip to plantasia for my two small children before I went in for major surgery the next day. I waited 10 minutes in the queue (only one person in front who was being served) during that time, my small child (1 years old) fell over something on the floor and was beside himself with a great big lump on his head. Now, as the queue freed up and it was our turn, Aliyson, the person on the till, didn’t use her customer service skills, or even human decency skills to ask if the injured child was okay, if I needed any help with anything, she proceeded to step aside from me, in my place in the queue, and call the one other person waiting behind me. I told her there and then, that’s rude, you could atleast acknowledge the injured baby on your property, instead you completely look over him and talk to the person behind us. She then says sorry to the person behind us and blames US for them not getting served next because we wanted our turn, when what we wanted was a bit of compassion for the crying child, and the mother in a fluster trying to find the over priced tickets I’d purchased. Alyson was rude throughout the entire process of checking us in, and when I called her out for it, she went ahead and blamed her boss. (A blonde woman with lots of extension glue hanging off her head, the only way I can describe her) again, the fact a very small child got injured not only IN her property, but right INFRONT of her, and she never once asked if he was okay, just stood there arguing about me holding the queue up. I would NEVER expect management to behave like that. I’d get fired on the spot if I made a mum of two small children, one which was injured, feel the way I was meant to feel. Once I had booked us in, and moved to the side, Alyson had the cheek to greet the one person behind us, by saying ‘I’m so sorry for the wait, I hope all that hadn’t held you up too much’ yet, when I was queuing for 10 minutes for the same one drain to be served there wasn’t even a hint of an apology for the wait we had. Put an absolute bad taste in my mouth the entire time! I’m so annoyed this place got my money! AND the last day I got to spend with my children before surgery! As we were leaving and in the gift shop, we were the only ones in there, not one single time did Alyson (who didn’t take her gaze off us) ask us how we were, did we enjoy etc etc, you know, all the things you say to make good customer service! As I struggled to open the door to get my pram out, she stood there, watching, not offering help from her empty gift shop, not once saying ‘thank you for coming’ etc etc Terrible customer service from start to finish!Thank you kindly for taking the time to write your review. Our customer experience is extremely important to us, and we will investigate this matter further. - Ashleydi6 contributionsWas good in the beginningWe purchased a family annual pass for Plantasia but won't be doing it again. There have been some changes made in recent years like the removal of the walk through bird house which I used to enjoy. What I don't enjoy is the amount of plastic/fake plants that have been put around the place. The more I visited the more I found plastic plants dotted around. It's a giant greenhouse so there's no excuse for having plastic plants! And as for calling itself a Zoo like it's started doing.. a few different species of animals/reptiles don't not mean you can call yourself a zoo.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We’re so sorry to hear that your experience did not match your expectations. We're also very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the changes that have been made over the past few years. A 1 million pound investment was made in 2019 to improve the attraction after many years of declining visitor numbers. The refit included adding a bridge to create a one-way system around the zoo; doubling the amount of animal enclosures to house our 40+ different species (over 230 animals); and the addition of interactive games and signs around the venue to encourage children to play and learn whilst having fun. Further interactives and improvements have been added year on year, but I'm afraid that the bird house you were so fond of was removed over 5 years ago, before the refit took place. The room in question now houses our deadly plants collection, and during the summer months it is transformed into a beautiful butterfly house. The general venue is maintained to represent the natural seasonal rainforest. It is maintained at a minimum of 20 degrees at all times, warmer at certain times of year, and further heated when the sun shines externally. We have a good team of Gardeners who maintain the tropical environment. Plastic decorations are only used in areas that people tend to touch, or higher areas that get scorched by the sun. The plastic plants represent less than 0.1% of our total plant collection. We also use dead leaves and branches as enrichment for certain animals within enclosures, of which the reason may not be evident to visitors. We are very proud to maintain our zoo license and BIAZA full membership status year on year. We do value all feedback received, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss your comments further in person. - HoneylocketWales, United Kingdom126 contributionsTired and disappointingPlantasia was very disappointing. It is a small tropical garden with a few animals and birds and some displays. The venue has a very small entrance hall and was cramped. Staff were young and poorly organised. Parking a nightmare. Some displays had plastic animals in rather than real animals. Animals include lizards, birds, marmosets, 2 meerkats etc.. some enclosures are difficult to see through the scratched plastic windows. Tired looking enclosures and shabby. Crocodile ensure difficult to look in to. Wallace display was good. Wouldn't recommend a visit.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're sorry you left feeling disillusioned, but we are glad that you enjoyed the Wallace exhibition element of your visit, We truly value all feedback received, and take all comments on board to see where improvements can be made. - Louise MKnighton, United Kingdom275 contributionsSmall enclosures, didn’t see enrichment for the animals and native wild sparrows!I was looking forward to this tropical zoo and even though some aspects were good, overall I felt the enclosures were small and not enough enrichment for the animals well-being. I felt some of the animals did not act naturally. One of the lizards spent a lot of time at the edge of its enclosure looking at the fence. A lot of the fish were swimming at the edge of the water enclosure up against the wall. I was expecting to see a lot more tropical birds and to be able to see them above us in the canopy. I understand with bird flu that the ability to walk with the birds was stopped but we visited this zoo after the bird lockdown had been lifted so that was disappointing. The only birds that were in the main rainforest were sparrows. Why are native wild birds trapped in this zoo? A lot of the real plants were looking tired and there were plastic plants around the zoo and in enclosures. Didn’t feel anything like a real rainforest. I wouldn’t go back again.Thank you kindly Louise for taking the time to write your review. I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience and would not return to our tropical zoo - This is certainly not what we like to hear. We do however appreciate all feedback and will take your comments onboard to see where any improvements can be made. I would like to address your concerns regarding the welfare of our animals. All enclosures are regularly inspected by Vets and Zoo Inspectors in relation to suitability of size, and the environment created inside each enclosure. Our zookeeper team regularly change enclosure layouts as enrichment for each species, and are currently in the process of upgrading many of the enclosures to bio-active environments, to reduce the need for any plastic decor, and create an environment as close-as-possible to the natural habitat of each species. The welfare of our species is paramount, and we follow strict guidelines on their husbandry daily as well as regular Vet health checks. The native wild birds enter our attraction of their own choice when the vented windows are opened to help control the building's temperature. The window vents are opened daily, but due to the availability of food from the natural environment within, many choose to stay. As well as the animal enclosures, the general venue is maintained to represent the natural seasonal rainforest. It is maintained at a minimum of 20 degrees at all times, warmer at certain times of year, and further heated when the sun shines externally. Plastic plants are only used in areas that people tend to touch, or up high where plants tend to get scorched. We also use dead leaves and branches as enrichment for certain animals within enclosures, of which the reason may not be evident to visitors. We thank you once again for your time reviewing our attraction. - Lesley C4 contributionsExperienceI bought an experience earlier in the year and it said at the time of booking that I could enquire about re-arranging the date if I couldn't come. Im due to come in June and with the rail strikes I've tried to contact Plantasia primarily by the email on their website. NO response. We're so sorry to hear this. Please let me reassure you that this is not our usual level of performance for customer service, and we are devastated to have caused you any concern or upset. Having checked our main inbox, and spoken with our team, I'm afraid we can't seem to find any recent emails relating to a change of date for an experience. We will raise this with our technical team immediately to resolve. In the meantime, I would really like to assist in correcting this issue for you. If you could kindly contact us by phone on 01792 474 555 any day between 10am - 4pm, we'll be able to view your booking to move your experience to a more convenient date. I really am truly sorry for your experience so far, and hope to now resolve this for you very quickly. - R B1 contributionTerribleDisappointed by their services and their manager! My little one has a golden ticket which they refused to accept because it’s an event day! Their T&Cs on the ticket said it’s not applicable on themed days. How will I know that ‘themed days’ are what they call ‘event days’? In addition, the ticket doesn’t state dates which means I can turn up next weekend and it’ll still be another a so called “event day!” They refused to acknowledge and the manager was rude and staff weren’t helpful! Staff could do with a communication training!! Speaking on lack of planning, they had a face painting activity for the kids, just before it closes down by 5mins (at 3pm) they told all the kids they can’t have their faces painted and they all got upset!! They could have simply closed the queue 15mins earlier knowing they can’t deal with the volume or simply got another extra pair of hands but of course not!! the manager was shifting the blame on to the parents for not reading the sign (and being mind readers to know how long it’ll take the person to paint faces), instead of simply acknowledging he should have closed the queue earlier and notified us or get additional staff to help. What a joke! NEVER AGAIN!!Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent visit to Plantasia Tropical Zoo. We genuinely appreciate all feedback from our guests, whether it's positive or critical, as it helps us improve our services and provide the best possible experience for everyone. Firstly, we want to extend our apologies for any inconvenience you experienced regarding your little one's golden ticket. We understand that it can be frustrating when expectations don't align with the reality of the visit. We want to clarify that themed days and event days are indeed the same, and we acknowledge that this information could have been better communicated. We will make sure to address this issue internally to ensure improved clarity for future guests. Regarding the lack of specific dates on the ticket, we understand the confusion it may cause. As golden tickets can at times have use-by dates that span a whole year, it is very difficult for us to list all events on the printed ticket. Special events dates can be found on the What's On page of our website, and we will take your feedback into consideration and add this website information to our golden tickets going forward for a more seamless and transparent experience. We are genuinely sorry for the disappointment you experienced with the face painting activity. It is our utmost priority to ensure that all our guests, especially the little ones, leave Plantasia with wonderful memories. We recognize the importance of proper communication and better planning for such activities. Your suggestions are valid, and we will undoubtedly take them into account to ensure smoother operations in the future. Providing exceptional service and hospitality is at the core of our values, and we regret that this aspect fell short during your visit. We will address this matter promptly and provide additional training to our staff to improve their communication and customer service skills. We strive to maintain a welcoming and respectful atmosphere throughout our establishment, and we are disappointed that this was not reflected during your encounter. Rest assured that appropriate measures will be taken to address this issue, and we will ensure that all team members uphold our values when interacting with our valued guests. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, and we sincerely hope you will give us another chance to make amends and provide you and your little one with a truly memorable and enjoyable experience at Plantasia Tropical Zoo. Please feel free to reach out to us directly if you plan to visit again, and we will ensure your experience is a positive and delightful one. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. - Toni b1 contributionBeautiful but register vehicleWe had a lovely time, small but lots there and very relaxing. Downside we have received a parking fine £100 plus a admit fee from car hire Company. we didn't see the signs as just got out the car and walk straight in, we have never seen this parking procedure at a retail park before and didn't to think check parking fees. Would be most helpful when making payment to prompt customers to register their vehicle.Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that you had a lovely time at our venue, finding it both enjoyable and relaxing. Your positive feedback is highly appreciated, and we are grateful for your kind words. We understand your concerns regarding the car parking situation, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. Our car parking requirement is indeed managed by a different company, and we make every effort to ensure our guests are aware of the parking regulations. Information about the car parking procedure is included in the email booking confirmation sent out when tickets are purchased online. Additionally, for the benefit of walk-in customers, we have prominently placed an A1 sized A-board at the front entrance, along with several signs at reception (and throughout the car park itself), in an attempt to notify our visitors about the parking requirements. We do acknowledge that our reception staff has a lot of information to convey to ensure our guests have the best experience inside the venue, and sometimes, the parking details might be unintentionally overlooked, especially during busy periods. Your feedback has served as a valuable reminder to us, and we will re-emphasize the importance of informing our visitors about the parking process when they arrive. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we genuinely appreciate your understanding. We hope that you will consider visiting us again in the future and giving us another opportunity to provide you with a seamless and enjoyable experience, both inside the venue and regarding the parking arrangements. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us directly. Your satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us, and we are always here to assist you. Thank you for choosing our venue and for sharing your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another wonderful experience. - MrsDibsCardiff, United Kingdom76 contributionsUnfortunately, a bit boring!I was hoping to love a little trip to Plantasia after reading the 5 star reviews but unfortunately that wasn't the case today. Most of the enclosures looked empty. We saw 2 meerkats, 2 monkeys, an iguana, a lizard, a parrot, a small crocodile and some cockroaches. All of the other enclosures we couldn't see the animals or bugs unfortunately. Perhaps they were hiding at the time we looked into the enclosure and we did try to wait to see but most were either sleeping somewhere hidden or perhaps the enclosures were empty. This left my 3 year old a little bored, looking for something that she couldn't see quickly. She wanted to move on to something else. I understand that sometimes it could be timing and perhaps it was just unfortunate for us but I'm not sure and I would risk paying £17 odd for 1 adult and 1 toddler to try again. The plants in some of the areas looked a little worse for wear too. There were some interactive things that we could get involved in like digging in a little sand box or moving a wooden mouse around a snake body that entertained my little one for a few minutes but sadly the majority of the time, both her and I were bored. I would say if you have younger children, perhaps it's not the place for you. But I did see some older children (about 7 or 8) looking pretty bored too.Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent visit to Plantasia Tropical Zoo. We genuinely appreciate hearing about your experience, and we're sorry to learn that it didn't meet your expectations. First and foremost, we apologize for the disappointment you encountered with some of our animal enclosures. We strive to provide our guests with an exciting and enjoyable experience, and it's disheartening to hear that many of the enclosures appeared empty during your visit. We'd like to assure you that all enclosures are occupied, however some animals may naturally seek shelter or rest during certain hours, and we understand this can impact the overall experience, especially for younger visitors eagerly looking forward to seeing them. As well as the animal enclosures, the general venue is maintained to represent the natural seasonal rainforest. It is maintained at a minimum of 20 degrees at all times, warmer at certain times of year, and further heated when the sun shines externally. The recent hot weather has not done us any favours regarding your comments on the plant life, as the extreme heat has scorched some of the plants. We have a good team of Gardeners who maintain the tropical environment but excessive heat is difficult to manage. We have recently worked with a company to repair many of the vented windows to help improve the temperature control in the hot-house going forward. We also use dead leaves and branches as enrichment for certain animals within enclosures, of which the reason may not be evident to visitors. Regarding the activities for younger children, we acknowledge your feeling that the overall engagement level might not have been sufficient for both you and your child during most of your visit. Your comment about older children also feeling bored is concerning, and we will use this insight to reassess the variety of experiences we offer to cater to a broader range of age groups. At Plantasia Tropical Zoo, we strive to create memorable experiences for all visitors, regardless of age. Your feedback is invaluable to us, as it allows us to make improvements and refine our offerings to better suit the needs and expectations of our guests. Rest assured, we will take your comments into serious consideration to enhance the overall visitor experience. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your visit and hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future. Should you decide to return, please feel free to reach out to our staff, and we'll be more than happy to assist you with planning your visit for a time when the animals can be more active and the environment is at its best. Once again, we appreciate your candid review and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and your family back for an improved experience. Very pleasant experience, lovely small zoo with an interesting selection of creatures and plants as well as an unexpected exhibition about Wallace.
Well arranged so a good flow around the experience, not too overcrowded.
Great for kids with extra interactive bits for them.

Plantasia was OK. Not a huge amount there really, but this is reflected in the price. We arrived at 9:55am and entered the building because it was so cold outside, and this guy told us we had to wait outside until 10am because the insurance didn't cover having patrons in the building until then, then why have the front door unlocked? So this incident made the decision on whether or not I was going to buy the grandchildren a gift from the shop or not...... not. It was sweltering hot inside (obviously being a tropical greenhouse) so dressed appropriately if you go. They sell fish food at the till for £1 per bag, I thought this was extortionate for a few sticks of fish food, but the grandchildren wanted to feed the fish. In summary its an ok place to go if there is nothing else on offer, but prepare to be underwhelmed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent visit to our zoo. We appreciate your feedback, and we're glad to hear that you found our meerkats to be the star of the show and that the little ones might enjoy their time here.
We understand your point about the size of our zoo and the duration of the visit. We're continually working to enhance our offerings and provide more opportunities for engagement to make the visit as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible.
We're pleased to hear that you found our collection of plants to be amazing. Our botanical displays are indeed a unique aspect of our zoo, and we take pride in creating a lush and immersive environment for our visitors.
We appreciate your feedback about the wildlife and the overall jungle adventure vibe. Your input helps us in our efforts to improve and create a more captivating experience for our guests.
Regarding the temperature inside, we apologize if it was uncomfortably warm during your visit. As well as the animal enclosures, the general venue is maintained to represent the natural seasonal rainforest. It is maintained at a minimum of 20 degrees at all times, warmer at certain times of year, and further heated when the sun shines externally. We control the temperature as best we can with our window ventilation system, however we also recommend wearing light layers during your visit.
Thank you for mentioning that there are several other options close by to pair up with your day out. Exploring the surrounding attractions can indeed make for a great day of adventures in the area.
Once again, we appreciate your feedback, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future with improvements that may enhance your overall experience.
Warmest regards

Expensive for two adults and one toddler. Not very much to see - certainly over promising, and under delivering - won’t be going back.

We walked around in about 45 minutes there is some great stuff on the way up , however we found on the way down there wasn’t much to see . I agree with the other comments that it does look a little run down. The staff were very friendly .

Is it more suitable just for children? Or would adults still enjoy it if they went without kids, like most other zoos? My partner and I are both in our 20s and we’re looking for nice things to do in Swansea when we visit next weekend.

Are you allowed to take your own food in such as sandwiches/crisps?
Thanks
No sorry, however we do have a wonderful Canopy Cafe at the entrance/exit with a great selection of Pizza's, toasties, cakes, treats and drinks. There are also plenty of restaurants and take-away options nearby in the Parc Tawe complex
