- BubbaLewisYork, United Kingdom51 contributionsFantastic pub. Must visit!Absolutely mint pub, so much history and so many decorations to keep you staring for ages. Great craic with the locals too who told us that Gerry Adams used to work there which may have been why it was once bombed. You wouldn't have known it had been rebuilt so recently, it has great character and charm. Great Guinness, too, of course. A must in Belfast.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 February 2023
- KayceezPeopleManson, Washington101 contributionsBest In Northern Ireland!Very popular for a reason. Great atmosphere, huge selection of beverages, and very nice service. We were here on the day of the Belfast Marathon, so extra busy. The bar keeps managed everyone well, but the locals are so kind to make sure everyone gets their turn at the bar. Outside seating is also available. Thanks for a good time in a wonderful place!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 April 2023
- pfefmeisterSan Francisco, California2,971 contributionsBig and FunGreat lively bar in the Cathedral area, it probably is packed every time it is open. Felt sorry for the Irish band playing in the corner who were drowned out by the drinkers. Another pub with over the top ambiance, it’s one of my favorites. Alas, no food.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 April 2023
- Laura TMiddlesbrough, United Kingdom6,983 contributionsrecommended to visit mid-week and during the day, as CRAZY busy on a saturday night! The Duke of York is highly recommended as a traditional Irish bar with live music and a friendly atmosphere. There are rooms full of memorabilia and every wall is busily decorated. The drinks on offer are mostly beers and whiskeys. Located in the busiest area in Belfast known as "Cathedral Quarter" so we knew it would be busy when we visited early one saturday night, however we were not prepared for how absolutely jam packed it was!! People were buying drinks and standing out in the alley/small street "Umbrella Street" it was that packed! So you couldn't even walk up Umbrella Street as too many people standing around with drinks, shoulder to shoulder! The Duke of York is notorious and high on the list for tourists to visit, but be warned we couldn't get anywhere near this pub on a weekend night. So we recommended to visit mid-week and during the day if you actually want to get a seat inside, have a drink and a look around and hear yourself think! (yes we are nearly 40 now and like to visit a pub to have a 'conversation' over drinks! haha)Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 31 July 2023

We discovered this beautiful pub in a small side street.
Very nicely decorated, lots of beers and lots of whiskey on offer. It might take some time to try everything. Definitely a clear recommendation when visiting Belfast.
Around the corner is a whiskey shop where you can also buy many of the whiskeys from there.

Great place to have a drink--if you can find a seat. Very crowded the night we went and people were filling the street outside. Fortunately we found a table inside and as happened everywhere in Northern Ireland people started chatting to us straight away--great evening

Fantastic place! Very lively and crowded. We were lucky to snag a table. Loaded with memorabilia as decor. Live music - traditional Irish tunes while we were there. Tried to go back the next night and there was a line out the door. A must visit while in Belfast!

This is an iconic Belfast pub in a central location with a great vibe. Busy spot. We watched the rugby match at a table outside and it was very busy with a great atmosphere.

As per other replies yes they do.
Going to Belfast in 2 weeks, there is only 3 females going and thinking of wearing super heroes fancy dress (this is an annual tradition), but have been told that we won't get into many bars if we dress up. Please can somebody tell me if this is correct.

I'd be surprised if you have any trouble. You may find the odd bar that's a bit funny but you probably won't want to call in there if they are. The students are in town for freshers week at the moment and you won't hold a candle to the stuff they get up to in town. You'll be fine, especially around the cathedral quarter. Have fun :)
Hi we will be over this wk end when is your live Irish music on an what' time Many thanks paul
