Travelling up to this area is a good thing to do when visiting Belfast, the views are fantastic and the history of these caves interesting

Easy walk with a few hills. The cave isn't that high to climb into. The cave itself only goes in about 15 feet.

Anytime I go to cave hill and Belfast castle I am stunned by the views up the lough and across the city. The walks throughout the park are well laid out and offer enough of a challenge in places to keep teenagers interested. Besides the...More

Great walk and an amazing view! A solid couple of hours should see most reasonably fit people around the longer route taking you up and over the hill. Much of the path is well maintained and easy enough although there are parts with steps that...More

We got a leaflet from the reception at the castle and chose the 5 mile walk. It was mostly well marked and a lovely route. Some lovely views of Belfast and friendly people on route. Then had a very nice lunch in the castle garden.

It’s easier on the lower path, it is a proper path and there are places to rest and leads up to the castle itself - I would test it first though as you know your mum better than me!

While doable, I don't think it is worth the headache. It's a steep walk and not always smooth underfoot. Sturdy shoes, drinking water, and back up waterproofs if the weather changes is what you should be considering.
