I went on two tours with Belfast Walking Tours in February 2022.
I’ve lived in Belfast all my life and was astounded by the history of the buildings and artwork I’ve walked passed for years without really ‘seeing’.
The tour guides - Larry and Paul took both tours I was on - are native to Belfast and are passionate about educating people about the history of their home town.
Both tours were very relaxed, informative and professional…
Everyone on the tour was given a radio transmitter with a set of headphones and a folder containing photos of the sights we were going to see. This meant we could hear the tour guides commentary even if we weren’t standing close by them - great if you’re like me and want to be at the back of a crowd, but don’t want to miss out on what’s being said.
The photos in the folder meant we could see (zoomed in) details of the buildings/artwork as well as photos of the buildings in their heyday.
The headsets & folders are collected in by the guides at the end of the tour, but most (all?) of the information and photos are available to view on their Facebook & Instagram pages.
The tours lasted around 2 hours and because of the nature of them, I’d say they probably wouldn’t hold much appeal to children.
The weather wasn’t great on one of the tours ( it is Northern Ireland don’t forget) but the guides did their best to shelter our group from the worst of it.
Both tours I went on ( Architecture and Historic Pubs & Street art) were public group tours with any financial contributions/donations going to NI Hospice. The guys also do private tours.
Despite the huge amount of information being delivered during the tours, the guides also had time to answer any questions asked along the way.
In summary, I’d thoroughly recommend Belfast Walking Tours and I look forward to going on more of their tours in the future.

Larry Murphy led our group of four long-standing friends on a tailored tour of Belfast City centre. Like so many other people who have grown up here, we walk past buildings that have become part of our lives without seeing them properly, without knowing their back story, without offering them the respect they deserve. Larry's tour has gone some way to redressing that shortcoming. His considered, carefully researched commentary was stimulating and wholly enjoyable. As we questioned and contributed, Larry capably expanded his narrative.
From the 'dome of delight' that is Belfast's City Hall, past the Baroque extravagance of the Scottish Provident and on to the sculpted heads at Ten Square, Larry's tales brought the architecture to life. We paused for some time at Malmaison, where Larry lauded the work of the Fitzpatrick brothers and unpacked the story of the missing African head. You'll have to go on Larry's tour to hear it for yourself but it's well worth hearing - and seeing it.
We heartily recommend Larry's tour - it's a terrific couple of hours around a host of Belfast's architectural gems.

Informative afternoon punctuated by craic and stories of a part of my hometown I never knew existed!
Feb 2022 • Friends
An afternoon full of great craic & stories.
We did the Sailortown tour with Larry and I was blown away by the personal stories of part the history that I never knew existed.
Larry brought to life the story of an uprooted community that I was totally oblivious to previously and now when I drive under the M2 and walk my route to work I see this part of town in a totally different light.
The afternoon flew by with plenty of laughs in between the private tours of buildings that the general public can’t normally access.
Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a informal but thoroughly prepared and experienced tour of the town, particularly if you are a local you’ll get your eyes opened

I have been on two walking tours of Belfast with Larry, with groups between 15 and 25 people (work colleagues and friends all local to Belfast). These tours have been excellent and everyone has enjoyed them so much. Larry showed us loads of fascinating architecture and street art which help tell the story of Belfast. I haven’t walked round the streets of Belfast the same since, all of a sudden I am noticing fantastic details everywhere thanks to Larry!
Larry accommodated a pit stop for refreshments and made the tour start and end bespoke to our requirements.
Highly recommended for a great day out!

We had an incredible walking tour with our guide, Paul. From our initial meeting to the moment we ended our tour, he was very warm, welcoming and professional. We strolled through and explored many of Belfast’s key attractions, murals and sites, and also hidden historical spots in this magical place. He went at our desired pace without hesitation and paid close attention to meet our every request. This was entirely a great experience and a company that I would highly recommend to everyone wanting to explore and truly experience Belfast.

We did a walking tour as a part of our works team building day and it was brilliant. Our tour guide Larry was very knowledgeable and had a sense of humour which kept us all entertained during the tour. I’ve lived in Belfast all my life but I’d no idea of the history of the buildings, the statues and the streets. We had a great time and are planning to do another walking tour this summer too. I’d recommend Larry, Paul and the team at Belfast Walking Tours to anyone looking for something slightly different, you won’t be disappointed.

I attended Belfast Walking Tours' architectural tour in Belfast city entre, and would certainly recommend the tour. Larry, who led the tour was knowledgeable and engaging, and certainly knows his stuff.
I went to school in Belfast city centre for years, and always worked there, but, despite this, I picked up lots of information on the tour, which I'm sure would be of interest to both tourists and locals alike.
I hope to go on a few more of Belfast Walking Tours' walks, and would highly recommend

So much we don’t know about our capital city and who better to open our eyes than Larry Murphy. He is both knowledgable and passionate about the people and events that Belfast owes its life to and I couldn’t recommend this tour enough to those native to the city or just passing through. Thanks Larry!!

In 2021/22 we organised over 10 tours for our members with Belfast Walking Tours. From exploration of the historical Titanic Quarter to the street art around the Cathedral Quarter. These guys are total professionals who never failed to provide well prepared, high standard experiences, all with good auld Northern Ireland humour. We recommend Belfast Walking Tours who don't disappoint!

This was myself and my 14yr old son's first time to Belfast and I wanted to give my son an insight into the 'troubles' and also learn more about it myself along with the culture and history of the city. I have done many tours in different cities all over the world and Larry is up there with the best. He was personable, and incredibly knowledgeable along with having an unbiased opinion. We spent 3 hours with Larry and despite the tour being a little dark at times he made it warm and went out of his way to ensure we left our tour on a high note. We left feeling like we had learnt and seen so much and wanting to come back for more. I cannot recommend this tour enough and I will personally be coming back. Thank you again Larry for creating memories and educating us!
