Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was really looking forward to visiting this museum but ultimately couldn't.
We tried for 40 minutes to find the it, they havent updated there Google map location ... then once we finally found the door, it was closed.r what kind of museum closes at 2pm ?! Very disappointed.
If you plan to go. Make sure you allowed enough time to walk from city center, get lost finding the door and still make it before 2pm to be able to actually visit.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Irish Republican History Museum. This place is an absolute gem and the man working (or volunteering) at the museum was just as nice as could be. I really wish I was local so I could visit regularly and enjoy the little library they have. The collection is definitely a must see for anyone interested in Irish Republicanism.

A must for anyone visiting Belfast! The museum is free, small but very interesting and collects information, newspapers and materials from the time to understand the history of Northern Ireland and the origins of the Troubles. Very moving.

WOW!
This little museum is hidden away out the back of the Peace Wall, but it is totally worth seeking out! It is totally free, and they welcome donations to help support it.
I expected it to be very small, but although it only really takes up one room, there is a tonne of exhibits - newspaper entries, photos, models, objects made by prisoners... You can easily spend an hour here and I'd like to see it get a larger location.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
I was completely blown away by the work by prisoners. They are some seriously talented people!
What I liked the most was the emphasis on facts and absence of blame or one-sidedness. This is a seriously good museum and everyone should see it, locals and interested tourists.

Amazing, small museum that illustrates Irish history from Easter Uprising to the Troubles. You can spend hours looking and reading about the Irish fight for independence and the sacrifice the nation made to be free. I wish the organizers of this exhibition soon get the recognition they deserve and move to bigger object. The entrance is free, and hosts are very helpful and kind. Looking forward getting back there on my next trip to Belfast!

Fantastic museum, I could have spent all day here. Items are all kindly donated by families and people impacted by the Troubles and Eileen’s sister kindly showed us around. Definitely worth a visit.

This place falls into the 'only in Northern Ireland' category. Other countries simply wouldn't put up with a museum that takes history into its own hands, flips it on its side, and presents the belligerents in a conflict as the heroes, especially so close to central Belfast, which the IRA effectively demolished during thirty years of madness. Imagine an Al Qaeda themed museum around the corner from Ground Zero.
The 'museum', and I use the term in the loosest possible sense, has several displays detailing - without any context whatsoever - how awful the British and the Protestants are and how the brave 'freedom fighters' of the IRA overcame them both. Naturally, there's no mention of IRA atrocities like La Mon, Black Friday or Omagh. No hint of the countless sectarian murders. But why would they mention that?
If you're an American who, for some reason, thinks that you're actually Irish and, for some reason, have decided that you like the extremists that killed thousands of other Irish people because they followed a different branch of Christianity, then this place might be for you.
For anyone else, avoid like the plague.

This is an excellent resource that provides a very-real insight into 'The Troubles'. Another reviewer described as 'glorifying murderers', however I never saw or heard any glorification. What I got was first-hand stories from Republican combatants. In addition you get the context of 'The Troubles' from a community in the middle of it and not some prejudiced view from RTE or other media. Yes it is totally from a Republican perspective, but it is called the Republican Museum.
It will make you question the media impression of the psychopathic men of violence, and show that 'The Troubles' affected the entire community and those combatants were male and female and had significant community support. I particularly enjoyed the prison craft work and the short film on Mairead Farrell.

We were shown a list of martyrs who died for the cause. Two of these martyrs had premature deaths beside their names. When we queried it, we were told, quite flippantly, that they died making bombs that blew up and killed them. These bombs would have been used to kill or maim innocent people, not just unionist paramilitaries,
There was also a group of men sitting in a glass fronted room watching footage of the troubles. They weren’t tourists. Sorry, but the whole thing left us with a bad taste in the mouth. Would not recommend it. Sincerely hope peace in Northern Ireland continues

It is so important this museum exists and so sad - it's not flash and not high tec but it is incredibly informative and powerful. I learnt so much, if you want to understand The Troubles it is a 'must' visit.
