About
DC Tours run daily Belfast walking tours. 'A History of Terror' is a 2 hour 30 minute tour. It visits 9 sites in Belfast city centre where some of the most important events of the conflict known as 'the Troubles' took place. You will learn about the Troubles, discover the stories of the people involved, the reasons why it started, how the peace process took shape and the journey to the active, vibrant city you see today. It is the only Troubles Tour to be awarded an 'Excellent' rating by our Tourist Board. It was ranked the No.4 Experience in the U.K. by TripAdvisor in 2019. Our ‘Best of Belfast’ walking tour is your essential introduction to the city, its greater history, the stories of its people, its legends and its landmarks. Our guides are Belfast natives and experts in their fields, one was named 'Top UK Tour Guide 2019' at the World Guide Awards. The tours run in the mornings and advance booking is advised.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went on a Troubles tour with a friend, and we had Gabe as our guide. Travelling in off-season meant we had the pleasure of a private tour. However we learnt in summer when it is a very popular tour - they use headsets so everyone is still able to hear.

Gabe was really great at making the turbulent history of Ireland/UK interesting and understandable. We had a great time touring around the city with him and learning about specific incidents, but also his own personal experiences. My friend and I both work in the Tourism industry and wouldn't hesitate to recommend touring with DC Tours, voted #1 for a reason!

Today we did the “History of Terror” guided tour.
It was a very wet and miserable day however we absolutely loved it!
Paul our tour guide was a total pleasure to be lead by and a total gentleman all round.
His knowledge, enthusiasm and friendly manner made the tour very interesting and a joy.
I had my small child in the pushchair and Paul made an extra fuss over him. He took the time to speak to each person and he was genuinely interested in getting to know the full group.

I feel having done the tour I am more aware of the troubles, the history and some of Belfast’s most iconic landmarks.
Thank you for a fabulous tour.
I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Belfast! Thank you very much for our great experience!

Paul, our tour guide, could not come more highly recommended. I brought a group of school students on this tour, and his engaging anecdotal narrative ensured that they remained focused for the duration and gave them the grounding they needed to understand the lasting impact of the Troubles. The headphones provided meant that everyone in the group could here the guide, making this the best tour we went on during the trip. Everyone in the party agreed that this was a useful experience that they would definitely recommend to others.

We were given a DC walking tour of Belfast by our children as an inspiration Christmas present. I say inspirational because what on earth could a walking tour of the city I grew up in (I’m over 60 so experience the troubles) give to me. OMG what an experience, two and a half hours walking on a cold February morning and we learnt so much and had so much fun. The approach of the tour is to focus on one year in the troubles (a year I was a teenager) and examine the sites of the bombings/shootings and other events which make up the historical/cultural landscape Belfast city centre over this period in time. Paul our tour guild has a great knowledge of the city and entertained us with local stories about the rich tapestry of the Belfast of his youth. This tour is a great way to “try” to understand what has become known of as the TROUBLES and at the same time get a favour for the more colourfully aspects of what makes the people of Belfast tick (no pun intended).

Staying near Belfast for a few days on our first trip to N Ireland, we heard about DC Tours from someone at our hotel who knew one of the tour guides. It proved to be an excellent recommendation and a highlight of our trip. The 2 hours or so we spent in the company of James was a real eye-opener, not only in terms of gaining a better understanding of the history of 'The Troubles' but also in realising that things are far from being settled today, whatever we might hear or think. Although the tour covers only a small area of the the city and a short period of time - the first half of the 1970s - James, who has lived and worked in Belfast all his life, gave us all a very clear and insightful window into a past and present world that might otherwise remain a closed book. All in all, a very worthwhile way to spend a morning from which you will take home something far more useful and lasting than any souvenir.

Paul provides a most interesting history of the city centre of Belfast framed against the backdrop of the history of Ireland and the Troubles. His knowledge is incredibly expansive and I’m sure we could have stayed on the tour for hours more and kept learning! Couldn’t recommend the tour any more.

Also, all COVID-19 precautions were taken so that is a plus for anyone nervous about their health.

Fascinating tour of a city and history I thought I knew. Excellent insights for locals and a fabulous way for visitors to understand the complexity of our city, our past and present. Thanks to Paul who is ridiculously knowledgeable, is brilliant craic, tells a great story and brings the warmth and welcome of Northern Ireland to the tour

It would be difficult to overstate how good this tour was.
James and Paul, our guides, were knowledgeable, even-handed and entertaining.
Two and a half hours flew by as we received an informative insight into both the reasons behind and, the consequences of people's actions during those terrible times.
Oral history, vividly described, and stimulating, in such a balanced way that would be impossible to capture in a textbook. I would highly recommend to anybody who has an interest in recent history, conflict and resolution.

We had a fantastic tour with James last weekend - he was interesting, knowledgeable and generous with his time. He also answered our questions in a very full and open way. Would definitely recommend this company and tour and am sure the other tours they offer would be of similar quality. A highlight of our trip. Thank you DC Tours!

I lived in Northern Ireland at the height of the troubles 50+ years ago, went on this tour 10 years ago and came back recently and immediately booked it again. This is such a splendid tour that provides an insight into the extraordinary story of how a British city became one of the most dangerous places in the world whilst city life continued. This tour should be essential for every visitor
