Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Called in for lunch with my daughter in law and our young grand children. We had coffees prior to them arriving and pre used over the menu. When they arrived we orderd lunch of one prawn salad one chicken ceaser salad pancakes and sausage chips and beans for grandson. We were given re fills of coffee while we waited for our lunch to arrive. The food arrived a short time later and was presented excellent. Niall is an excellent credit to the establishment as anything was no bother to him. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area. The shop downstairs had at a lot of sort of clothing and Irish objects for sale. Will definitely return to the restaurant.

Beautiful old church, St. Patrick's grave, and a nice center located next to town. This was a brief stop on our way through Downpatrick amd we didn't know St.Patrick's grave was here. Perfect if you want to get out and see an old graveyard and church. The center is very nice with a gift shop. Cafes close by.

Enjoyed my short visit to the centre as part of this walking tour. Lovely staff and a superb facility. All Covid safe and secure. I must come back and spend a bit longer! The walking tour was wonderful. So much to see and Duane is a top guide.

Good exhibition but some of it is still closed due to a need to restructure its contents. Videos are not subtitled therefore denying access to deaf and hard of hearing visitors. No excuse for them since the Centre is a modern building. A letdown! The Centre is well advised to subtitle their video presentations immediately as their legal obligations to comply with the Equality Act.

We visited the centre yesterday, 2 Sept, with relatives from Australia. The centre itself is lovely, but we were very disappointed by the attitude with one member of staff(young, with long black hair). My relative had bought a number of pens and other items to bring back to Australia as gifts. When we asked could we make sure the pens were working properly by removing the small end tips, (which was a fiddly thing to do)and writing on the small piece of paper she had given us, she was not very pleased & then when we asked her to replace one of the tips back onto the pen, she didn't speak one word to us. Even when she herself dropped one of the tiny tips & we tried to make light of it she still never smiled one or spoke to us. Very disappointed in this front of house staff members attitude. Appeared very rude & dismissive.

Don't go there out of season. Don't waste money on parking or anything because its likely that they will be showing Narnia instead of the promised film about St. Pats. By-pass the Centre and go straight to the gravesite and church. Parking is free and admission is as well. Plus it save walking up a huge hill and stairs. The woman in the gift shop at the Cathedral was much more informative and friendlier.

If you visit Downpatrick with the intention of exploring the story of St Patrick then you simply must include a visit to nearby Saul. Saul is where St Patrick is said to have landed and after converting the local chieftain he was given a parcel of land with a barn in which he could hold his services. This barn is long gone but now replaced with a small church on the same spot overlooking the region. It is beautiful and spiritual. You leave the town of Downpatrick - Saul is two miles along the Strangford Rd - follow the signs and you drive or walk up a small, narrow lane. Park at the top - keep well over to he verge - and you can wander into the grounds and also enter the church if it is open. This is a small isolated location with farms and houses surrounding. Don't visit without your camera! nearby is the large statue of St Patrick on Slieve Patrick - you park at the bottom and walk up the hill with various bronze plaques relating the St Patrick story. If you are visiting Downpatrick you cannot omit these important sites - Saul church is where it all began so go there.

This place is a real diamond in the heart of Downpatrick and Down, there is so much to see and experience. It is a beautiful building and is so well set out. We also enjoyed the cafe/restaurant, friendly staff, and had a view of the garden It’s well worth a visit, and has a friendly relaxing ambience.

My husband and I had a wonderful day out with Martina and Elaine and a lovely group of people. The day began with soup and sandwiches followed by a short bus ride to the start of the walk. The scenery along the river is spectacular and the walk was not too difficult. Plenty of good conversation and opportunities for photographs along the way. The day ended with a delicious ice cream in Newcastle. We look forward to taking part in the other walks.
