Cove climbing is run by Liam Malone, a local climbing instructor with over eight years experience as an outdoor instructor and vast knowledge of the mountains and sea cliffs in the North East of Scotland. He is passionate about helping people experience adventure and offers both guided days out and instructional days. With qualifications in summer and winter hillwalking, navigation, rock climbing and scrambling, cove climbing can take you on an adventure in any season of the year.

We (family of 3; 9yr old boy) went climbing with Liam and had such an amazing time. The climbing was fun, the scenery was beautiful. Liam was a great guide; knowledgable, kind, and knew how to entertain our son while he wasn't on a climb. If you're a family that likes a bit of challenge and adventure, and looking to get off the beaten path, this is an absolute must do on a Scotland vacation.

We had an awesome day climbing with Cove Climbing! Our guide (Liam) was great fun, an excellent communicator, and patient with us as we learned the basics of outdoor climbing. He was also really attentive to the individual needs of our family members, challenging those of us who were ready for it and encouraging others as they needed it. Liam put together a thoughtful and well laid out day and left us eager to pursue outdoor climbing again in the future. We would definitely book climbing with him again, on our next trip to Scotland!

Really great weekend of climbing with Liam.
He was very knowledgeable and after these two days I now feel confident setting my own protection and safely climbing outdoors with a variety of setups.
Before this weekend I had no idea how much great climbing there was so close to Aberdeen. A great way to get from indoor climbing to outdoor!

Great experience, having never climbed outside before we were nervous but Liam was so helpful and encouraging. Beautiful area and did various climbs with different levels of difficulty. Plenty time to enjoy the amazing views and even saw some seals.

Had a fab weekend on the indoor to outdoor course. Learnt heaps and Liam is very patient and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend!

Had a great day building my climbing skills with Liam at Cove climbing.
Clear explanations, hands on experience and positive criticism meant that I learned a huge amount in 8 hours.
In a one-to-one day, Liam tailored the instruction and speed to my needs to fill the gaps and improve my practises.
Everything was done in a safe, controlled but realistic rock environment.
I can thoroughly recommend a day out with Liam, everyone will learn something.

A great day climbing at the cliffs in Cove with Liam. We were a group of 4 women, with mixed experience. 2 of us had done some climbing before, but not for a while, and we had 2 complete beginners. We had a great mix of different grade climbs and some abseiling. Liams calm and easy manner made us feel safe and confident to give things a go, and he was very patient with us. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and the beginners felt really proud of what they had managed with a confidence that they hadn't expected. We definitely want to do this again.

Liam is a very knowledgeable, safe, and encouraging instructor. Having done some trad leading before he was able to tailor the day perfectly to give us a really valuable - and adventurous - learning experience. Much recommended to anyone, regardless of their experience.
