About
Award-winning layout with greater changes of elevation than are usually found at other links-style golf courses. Royal Aberdeen Golf Club in Aberdeen, Scotland, was founded in 1780 as the Society of Golfers at Aberdeen and became the Aberdeen Golf Club in 1815. Until 1888 members played on the Queen's Links close to the city before moving across the River Don to the links at Balgownie. The Course was originally designed by the Simpson Brothers, Archie and Robert of Carnoustie and later re-bunkered and lengthened by James Braid. Hawtree & Company are now engaged as the Club's architects to ensure our classic links keeps pace with the modern game. Host to many of the worlds top golfing events such as the Walker Cup 2011, Aberdeen Asset Scottish Open 2014 and the Amateur Championship 2018. The club's 'Royal' patronage was awarded by Edward VII in 1903.

One of the world’s finest golf clubs with history matched only by the quality of the club’s members.

A genuine bucket list experience that exceeded all my expectations. If you are a golfer visiting Scotland this club has to be on your itinerary.

The Pro Shop has some nice pieces so make sure you have room in your bag for when you go home. The food was good. Short of writing a 10000 word magazine review I can’t put into words how great my visit was and I recommend RAGC to one and all.

This is an absolute "must" play in Scotland. From the initial booking via their team through the day of onsite interaction, this is an incredible experience. Their staff, starting with the GM is well trained in hospitality. A great experience in every possible way. Of course the golf course itself should be a "bucket-list" for any golf fan! Thanks to the team for making our day so special!

A group of 8 of us embarked on a trip of Aberdeen playing golf at Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay, Murcar Links and Trump Aberdeen.

Royal Aberdeen certainly justifies it's highest position in the rankings of the group. The front 9 is absolutely superb. The routing is an easy walk and the golf holes are varied, architecturally interesting and give different strategic options of how to play the holes. The back 9 is also wonderful. There are a few more walks back to tee boxes than the front 9, but they are all worth it!

We played 36, so arrived before the clubhouse restaurant was even open (Covid impact). We were greeted on arrival and given a welcome pack (including course guide) to set up up for the day. The hospitality at lunch was extremely friendly and welcoming. The food was also varied and perfect for a 36 hole day of golf.

There is nothing more you could want from a golfing experience when paying a full green fee. I'd highly recommend to any golfer.

We visited Royal Aberdeen for a day of golf in mid-august as part of an annual trip. We have played a range of top courses including Turnberry, Hoylake, Hillside, Formby & Woodhall Spa. Royal Aberdeen has to be toward the top of this illustrious group of courses. Some said it was their favourite and it is easy to see why. The tees were immaculate, the greens fast and true, and the rest of the course presented in fantastic condition.

Aside from the course, all staff and members were welcoming and made for an enjoyable (and tough) day of golf. The catering and hospitality was well-organised and coordinated superbly by the front of house team.

I would recommend Royal Aberdeen to anyone who wants to experience a traditional links that is presented in superb condition.

From the moment we arrived after a 6 hours drive from Yorkshire, to the moment we left, the experience really was fantastic. The Club Pro was exactly what you hope every Pro to be, welcoming, knowledgeable and happy to show you around the facility (and the shop is cosy, but very well equipped). The Clubhouse itself well, (Locker Room) was unfortunately only partially open due to CoviD, but the interior was kitted out in modern furnishings where you would expect alongside the heritage and traditional fittings bestowed to a club of such an age. Really well considered. The Staff in the clubhouse were well appointed and the food choice exactly as you'd hope with a simple, but well thought out menu. The practice facilities are probably the only slight downside to the club and while the chipping area and practice putting green are cracking and give you an insight into the rapid pace of the greens, the basic warm up net hidden away in the corner is while very useful, a little of a let down in comparison to every other aspect of the place. The course is truly fantastic, with some great holes. The first out towards the sea is a steady affair, but a stunning hole and standing on the tee on 2 is break-taking. The course rolls through the dunes and is extremely well looked after throughout, cracking tee complexes, wonderful rolling fairways, some tricky deep bunkers and just to die for greens. Loved the place and would highly recommend.

We had good fortune to be able to play the Balgownie course at Royal Aberdeen this summer and we were absolutely stunned. Most do not need to be told how wonderful the golf course is, but of the 220 courses I have played, it is the best. I have played some of the best and most exclusive courses in the US and none of them rise to the level of Balgownie. What made it even more special was that I was able to share the experience with my stepfather (who taught me the game 30 years ago), and my daughter (age 22 and who I introduced to the game and is a fine player who competed in college).

While the course was a proper test and completely stunning, what really made the experience exceptional was the team at Royal Aberdeen. Everyone at the club from the person who helped me setup the tee time, to the wait staff, caddies, golf pro, and everyone else left us stunned by how kind, genuine, and generous they were. It was a treat to play such a special course, but the way we were treated was what really made our day at Royal Aberdeen one that we will never forget.

A great day at Royal Aberdeen GC! The course in excellent condition and a serious challenge. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff who made sure we had all relevant information and started on time. Completed our round as a two ball in just over 31/2 hours - excellent on a busy course. A great, all round experience!

Played on 5th October and it was a wonderful golf course. As said elsewhere the front 9 is up there with the best I've played. The setup, catering, course, pro's introduction and basically everything was 1st class. The layout was great playing through the dunes and greens is great condition. Well done and thanks

It was an honor to play Royal Aberdeen. Thank you so much for having us today. My group had a great hang and what an incredible golf course! Wow.

The entire staff, inside and out, was incredibly welcoming and hospitable. We had such a great experience. My caddie, Lewis, was absolutely tremendous. A total pro, excellent caddie, a great spirit, and sounds like he has a very bright future. Maria, Penny, Lewis and all the caddies made our experience even more memorable.

Not the best of weather last Tuesday to play Royal Aberdeen but we had so much fun out on the links. There wasn’t a part of us that wasn’t wet through by the second hole and in some way this added to fun. Golf course is just fabulously, even in such conditions it was a total pleasure to play. Hopefully next time it will be a little kinder to us..

The whole experience of the day was special, David looked after us very well but the memory of several of the members, I believe two past Captains, instantly engaged a conversation in the bar, tour of the club and the final words of “well watch you tee off” so they did all standing watching our first tee shots, will last forever.

I have to say it was a total privilege to play Royal Aberdeen last week and brought back so many great memories from my childhood playing in Scotland. This is why golf is the greatest game of them all……
