Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Two of us walked around this historic and atmospheric area. The University colleges and other domestic buildings blend in very well. The cobbled street gives an impression of how the old town looked. It is a well cared for part of the city and certainly worth seeking out up to visit.

Old Aberdeen is wonderful for walk around with it’s beautiful historical buildings. King’s College is wonderful and has so much history and the cobbles streets of Old Aberdeen lead to many interesting places. A must see when in Aberdeen.

There’s plenty of parking dotted around. There’s lots of narrow streets and Main Street is very picturesque. So many beautiful old buildings and very impressive architecture. A pleasure to wander round. Highly recommend a visit to this area.

Not changed much in 50 years since I was last here. It’s very pretty and atmospheric for a campus. Lots of new eateries offering varied choice. Red Lion pub still there. Near The Cathedral and Seaton Park for further interest.

We walked round Old Aberdeen before heading for a Father's Day Lunch. It is a lovely experience to see Kings College and New Kings surrounded by many period properties. A must do if viviting Aberdeen.

I was on a nostalgic tour of Aberdeen, forty years after I was an MED student here.I loved seeing King's College and Chapel and Cromwell Tower again;the cobbled streets and the High Street.St Machar's Cathedral brought back memories of Christmas services and mulled wine.I saw the Bobbin Mill again. However, what happened to Dunbar Hall?It was modern yet demolished to now be an ugly gap site.Words failed me!

The no 20 bus will take you from Union Street to outside the King's College Centre at the start of the High Street. The Powis gates are on the opposite side of the road from the College, looking rather out of place since they resemble minarets. If you wnt, you can go through these gates and look at Crombie Hall. Returning to the bus stop, walk through the arch into the King's College Quadrangle. The entrance to King's College Chapel is on your left and should be visited. Look at the College Well in the centre of the Quadrangle. Returning to the High Street proceed along it with the green to your right and on the side away from the chapel is New King's, an early 20th century building. On the far side of the green, running parallel to the High Street is Elphinstone Hall with a beautiful set of archways. Continuing up the High Street you see lanes running off the street which are good to investigate. there is a mixture of little cottages and fine mansion houses on view. For example, go down Wrights' and Coopers' Place, a wide lane with beautifully restored houses. At the end of the lane is the MacRobert Memorial Garden - a wonderfully peaceful spot. Return to the High Street and carry on to the place where it widens to a market area overlooked by the Old Town House. There is so much to explore and enjoy in Old Aberdeen, for example the medieval Saint Machar Cathedral which is straight ahead past the Old Town House, and/or the Botanical Gardens which you come to turning left at the Old Town House.

Print a copy of the "Old Aberdeen Walk" leaflet from the internet before you travel, as the Tourist Information Office don't seem to stock any of the walking tours displayed on the council website.
Take the No 20 bus (£4 for a day ticket) from Union Street to the terminus, and walk along the lane to Brig O'Blairgowie. From there, you can walk through Old Aberdeen, passing the main tourist sights including the Cathedral and King's College. It will take about an hour and a half to complete the walk at the south end of the university, from where you can get the No 20 back into Aberdeen.

We have visited this area many times. The cobbled streets breath history. There is so much to see and each point of interest has a story to tell. To tell that story there is something new. For Apple iPhone and iPad there is a very handy app to guide you along 18 amazing locations. This "Old Aberdeen" app is an audioguide that is controlled by GPS. A talk is automatically started when you approach a location. It works like a small booklet, without text, but with a photograph and map with annotation on each page. The app is free.

Most people think that Old Aberdeen is the old centre of Aberdeen. Wrong. Old Aberdeen is a small university town on its own, some 3 km from the centre of Aberdeen. It is full of history, including King's College with its magnificent 500 year old chapel, St Machar Cathedral, the Chanonry, Botanic Garden, and the old arched bridge across the river Don. Seaton Park is bursting with flowers from June until October. Don't forget to have a peek inside the new Sir Duncan Rice library. The archtecture is amazing. We have entertained many oversees visitors in Old Aberdeen. It left them with a lasting impression.

I am having a hard time touching base with anyone using windows live, I have even chequed my spam...I am looking for a tour guide for the old aberdeen town. I was trying to get in touch with Andrew Forbes Hill, as we liked that he dressed in his tartan. How else can we get ahold of him or anyone. I don't see a phone number, I would call once we are in Scotland. but really would like to use e mai .and set it up state side. there are 8 of us

Hello
I dont know the individual that you mention - there are certainly tours available - I would speak to the Aberdeen Tourist information or the Heritage Society
They are easily searchable on google but trip advisor wont let me add the links for some reason
Hope that helps

Apologies for the late response. There is paid parking in most of Old Aberdeen these days. Free parking is available at the Aquatics Centre on the other side of King Street. It is only a few hundred metres walking from the High Street. For tour guides you best contact the Visit Scotland office in Union Street. You can of course download my "Old Aberdeen" audiotour app from the App Store, provided you have an Apple iPhone. Enjoy!
