About
Carnoustie Golf Links is an iconic, world-leading golf destination in Scotland and home to ‘Golf’s Greatest Test’. Golf has been played at the Links since the 16th century and it was Carnoustie natives who went on to establish the Professional Golfer’s Associations of America and Australia. We look forward to warmly welcoming you to play our fantastic three 18-hole courses, the Championship Course, the Burnside Course and the Buddon Links Course. The Championship Course played host to The 147th Open last year, with Francesco Molinari becoming the 2018 Champion Golfer of the Year.

The staff were amazing. I missed my tee time by accident, but they managed to still squeeze me in later that day. Given I travelled from the other side of the world for this round of golf, I was extremely appreciative with their help.
The course was fantastic as you would expect for a British open course. The caddie one of my playing partners had was great as well.
The service in the restaurant was first class.
Definitely have a round at Carnoustie if you have a chance.
Note: If your coming from St. Andrews, there is no public transport to get to Carnoustie. I had to get a taxi which cost 65 pounds.

We stayed at the hotel recently, food was great, hotel was great, we went to the leisure centre the girl at the front desk offered many condolences about the broken hot tub, she was very friendly, facilities were great. Also loved the walk around the golf greens.

It was on our bucket list and we finally made it to Carnoustie in late June. The welcome was friendly, the starter charming, and the course was (as expected) terrific. However, the experience was not entirely as expected since the pace of play was awful (5+ hours). We (and others immediately in front and behind our group) stood around for far too long beginning on #13. Someone from the pro shop drove up in a golf cart when we (and two other groups!) were standing on the 16th tee and told us that the course marshal had called in sick that day. All of us had traveled from far and wide to play Carnoustie and we could not help but think how such a world-class and high-price facility could find itself without a marshal and how they could tolerate having so many players (paying top dollar) standing around for so many holes... Very disappointing. We played a half dozen other courses that week, all in less than 4 hours - comfortably.

Nice links course. Greens and fairways in great condition.
Pot bunkers are designed to be impossible to get out of and they live up to their name.
Overpriced but if you are needing to be able to say you have been there, then go for it.
Crowded when we went there.
VERY slow play - a five hour round in Scotland, unheard of. The weather is tough and the beer is good so we play in 3.5 hours or less.
Asked a staff member about this and he said the course ranger was off sick. Poor fella!
I would think that they could afford to get someone else to do the job for the price you pay. Worth doing so as there wouldn't be so many upset players. There were three groups waiting on the 16th tee!
Much better to play Panmure just down the coast or Cruden Bay, just North of Aberdeen. Now these are superb links courses!
You can get a buggy at Panmure but not at Cruden Bay so take note if you are kinda decrepit
Or you could play at Rosemount or Lansdowne [my home courses] if you want to play on the best inland courses in the region - not that I am biased.

I first called for a booking in early 2019 for June of 2020. With Covid, my trip was postponed and the Club initiated contact with me letting me know that they would maintain the same rate and give me a priority tee time for when. I planned to visit. I booked again (with ease) in 2022 but once again had to postpone due to a family issue. The Club was gracious once again. Finally got to play on June 13th. The booking team ensured my position as a single once again and I requested a caddie. Billy was just awesome - I should have been carrying his bag! He is a skilled golfer at a 1handicap, provided great knowledge and history of the course. Within a few holes knew my game and kept me on track and out of traps! I ended up in 4 of the 114! The entire experience was amazing because of the people! Billy, the Starter , Golf Shop team and booking group. When you combine that level of service with a fair but demanding golf course you get nothing but an awesome experience! Can’t wait to go back!

I've played golf for 40 odd years and out of all the rounds I've played, the round on the Carnoustie links would be top of my list. Conditions of tees, fairways + greens absolutely 1st class. I booked a caddy who was worth every penny. The green fee is expensive, but I'd pay it again next week if I had the money! Hope to be back one day.

Fantastic golf and amazing course. Welcomed at the clubhouse and everything was first class service from the off. Short game area and putting green good to warm upon. You get onto the simulator bays half an hour before tee off in order to warm up. This was okay but I do prefer a driving range.
I took the opportunity to take a caddie on my round and Des was fantastic. Great knowledge of the course and talked away throughout the round about history of course and opens that had been played there.
As a solo player I was paired up with a 2 ball and an other solo player and the course and atmosphere definitely added to us all getting on and having a great day.
The course is tough and deserves its hard status but it is not daunting and there is definitely space to play bad shots and still recover. The rough is not as hard to play out off as other courses and no-one ever found it hard to find a wayward shot.
Thanks for the wonderful experience I hope to come back again.

My wife and I stayed for two nights at the links Hotel, we really enjoyed our time there, what a beautiful place, the service and food was first class. Played the Kintyre the first day and the championship course the second day. The quality and condition of the championship course was outstanding, as the caddie said, the open could be palyed there with only a couple days notice it's so good.

As most other reviews have noted, the service here is exceptional from a nice welcome greeting, locker provision, baggage storage, and closing send off. I appreciated that the pro shop also stocked nice items for women, which is often not the case. The course was awesome. The bunkers really define this course, along with the burns. The greens are pretty flat and boring but there are cool undulations in some of the approach areas (including on 1 and 15) that can lead a shot astray if you don’t know they are there. For those considering where to stay, Carnoustie is a pretty sleepy town. The train station provides easy and affordable access from St. Andrews and is a good option for a solo traveler. If I redid my trip, I’d just stay in lively St. Andrews the whole time and venture out from there on public transit. It’s just a short walk to the course from the station.

Don't let the title fool you, everything about this visit to Carnoustie was excellent with the exception of my own personal misfortune. Every member of the staff with whom I interacted was simply outstanding - they were kind, accommodating, and gracious without a hint of pretentiousness that may have come with playing at such a historic and prestigious course. I feel I must call out one person in particular, Andrew Peck. He went above and beyond to make the experience the best it could be under difficult circumstances. His kindness alone makes me want to return and spend a week playing all the courses Carnoustie has to offer.

I’m looking at playing Carnoustie as a single in late August. Happy to join up with a two or three ball. What is the likelihood of turning up on the day or trying to secure a tee time a few days in advance ?

Hello,
As you can imagine, having just hosted The 147th Open, we're pretty busy so don't recommend just turning up on the day. You're best bet is to contact us directly, you can find all the contact information you need on our website or also try booking via our website.
We would also just like to clarify, I think Hatso has us confused with somewhere else. There is no need for suit and tie to enter our clubhouse, Links House and you can take all the photos you want. Our only dress code is on the golf course - no denim or football tops.
We look forward to having you.

Hi Denise,
The R&A have yet to release a specific date for the sale of tickets yet but your best bet is to register for priority ticket access and this means that before tickets do go on sale you will be notified via email.

Hi I am travelling with a friend this weekend to play the 3 courses at Carnoustie, starting with the championship course on Friday. The question is do we need a handicap certificate?. We are both keen social golfers, however we are not affiliated to a club. We are not low handicappers, nor are we hackers. I play off about 20, my friend off about 18. The trip was booked as a gift through your golf travel and there was no mention of the requirement. Will we be disappointed after the 500 mile drive from Essex?

Hello Mark,
Unfortunately I'm not able to completely answer your question I'm afraid. The Buddon and Burnside courses will be fine without a certificate however I'm not 100% sure about the Championship. I played a competition there and was selected for a slot due to my handicap. I would actually phone the Links office to find out. Just to let you know that there are course closures very soon as there are qualifying events for the Seniors Open going on, so it might be best to book tee times to ensure that you get to play.
