Visit this charming rustic beauty of a forerunner to the Industrial revolution. The rural corn mill, still run today by the gentle flow of Barry Burn, was the ancestor to today's food preparation processes and a myriad of complex technologies that sprung from simple water-wheels, gears, pulleys and belts.

Enjoy the tranquility of this renewable and sustainable approach to work & food in bygone days. Listen to the splash of the wheel and the rumble of the mechanics as the building shakes itself into life. Tours explaining the significance of these mills and telling some of the tales and stories of those that worked in and around these hubs of community are offered and bookings can be made to see flour being ground.

This National Trust property is a fascinating look into the past .The working mill still produces flour using the same method used hundreds of years ago . The building has been maintained very well and kept in its original form as far as possible .The surrounding grounds , mill lade and pond provide very pleasant and enjoyable walks .

We were blessed with beautiful weather on the day we visited, and to be the only visitors that day. The guide gave us a personal tour of the mill once she had switched it on by diverting the mill lade. She was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and happy to answer my questions. We got a fascinating glimpse into the world... More

We visited Barry Mill with our three young children aged 6, 4 and 3. From the moment they arrived they were absolutely fascinated! We were met by the current Miller and his enthusiasm was infectious! He gave the children quizzes to complete and as we had some time before the next tour started we had a wander round the mill... More

The history behind the mill is very interesting and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. It was amazing to hear the mill is still able to function as it once did and produce flour which have been made into dog biscuits! There was a great mouse hunt for the younger generations and on a nice day this would be... More

We visited this beautifully restored Mill today and had a first class tour with a very well informed guide. There was a small group of us including children adults and older adults but the guide engaged us all with her information and demonstrations. We followed the tour with a walk to the weir which was worth doing to understand the... More

We visited Barry Mill late on a weekday afternoon. The satnav wanted to take us down a farm track but we followed the signs through the very pretty village of Barry. The entrance leads to ample parking. It is a short walk via steps or a winding trail from the car park to the gift shop/ticket office and to the... More

Barry Mill is an old working oatmeal mill owned by the National Trust for Scotland. It is a category B listed building and has been carefully restored. It was a really pleasant place to pass an afternoon. The tour of the mill itself took about 1 hour and the guide, Caroline, was interesting, knowledgeable and helpful. The grounds surrounding the... While we arrived just before closing time, the NT staff were wonderfull, they kept the Mill open and gave us a very fast but comprehensive walk through the Mill, explaing all of its varied operations, the staff certainly went beyond the norm to ensure we enjoyed our visit. We will be back to enjoy a much longer visit.

Really interesting visit to this mill. Initially looked around myself and then had a tour with Sandra who put the mill into working motion! Amazing to see such old water powered machinery in action. Sandra was very knowledgable as she explained the process. Definitely worth a visit. There are walks too but too muddy today.
