Special Opening with Poetry Reading
Dec 2019 • Friends
This is a superb, breathtaking collection of powerful and moving sculptures in wood and stone by little known C20th Montrosian sculptor. Expertly curated by volunteers. Must be seen. Look for summer open times.
Nearby is a gem of a local Museum, Montrose Museum, packed with interesting collections and artefacts including a display of taxidermy showing local wildlife and habitats which children adore!

Gray's School of Art meets William Lamb
Nov 2017 • Friends
I organised a visit to the studio with my fellow students from Gray's School of Art and had a really great day drawing, looking through the piles of drawings and etchings and of course admiring the exquisite sculptures. The volunteers/staff couldn't be more accomodating - they were so welcoming and knowledgable. It was really inspiring to learn about William Lamb's life and work and spend the day in this amazing space. An absolute treasure - and owned by the people of Montrose too.

A wonderful little place
Nov 2017 • Couples
William Lamb is a sculptor who is hardly known outside of a few people in Montrose, his hometown, but he is undoubtedly a superb artist who should be recognised far more widely and this exhibition of his work is ample proof. The studio where he worked is filled with busts and statues-each superb. The trio of the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret with their mother in all her stunning beauty was, for me, the highlight. His etchings which are held in his small workshop are also excellent. It won’t take you long to go round but it is time well spent and will,I am sure, leave you with great admiration for this wee Montrosian’s skill and artistry. Do go.

Little gem
Jun 2015 • Friends
Wonderful and amazing visit to this little gem of an artist's studio.
Would love to go again.

Unfortunately as there is not a lot of space in the museum think it would be a challenge for a disabled person.

William Lamb Studio - A Star Attraction - not to be missed
Jun 2015 • Couples
We were tipped off by a friend to visit this little attraction and we were absolutely stunned by the works on show in the artist's own studio. What a breath-taking experience it was. Wood, stone and bronze sculptures, water colours, etchings, ink and pencil drawings all on view. Lamb did all the oak panelling on the walls and all the wooden fittings himself, bed, table, chairs etc. If this studio had been in a city it would be besieged by visitors but sadly it remains virtually unknown in the wider world. Lamb was THE top Scottish sculptor of his time and was of international and royal repute exhibiting in London and Paris. He was commissioned to do 3 royal sculptures which are also on show. His sculptures are dotted around the town which perhaps is why Montrose is known as the sculpture capital of Angus.

Hidden gem
Jul 2014 • Friends
Tucked away up a small close at the end of the High Street this hidden gem is well worth the visit. Full of the work of William Lamb one of Scotland's best but little known sculptors it provides a showcase for his work. A recently published book by Jonathon Stansfeld lays out the story of this remarkable artist in an interesting and informative way, on sale in the studio it is a great help in placing the progress of the artist and his reasons for staying in his home town rather than seeking fame and fortune in London.
