Springbank has a reputation as the connoisseur's distillery tour and I had been long overdue a visit to find out Unfortunately at the time of my visit they were only able to offer the 'standard' tour due to covid restrictions but don't be fooled by that, the only tour that compares with it (that I am aware of) in terms of depth and breadth is Balvenie and at £10 (including a miniature to take away) it's almost impossible to get better value The biggest single factor that sets Springbank apart from most/all other distilleries is how much of the process is done on-site and by hand. From malting the barley to warehousing the casks to bottling the finished product, the entire operation is done in Campbeltown and with traditional methods The lady who showed us around (I'm terribly sorry, I've forgotten your name) was extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer questions in fantastic detail The shop had a good selection of the core range and also offered the option to fill your own bottle from the distillery's solera casks - so you get a dram relatively unique to the time you were visting, a very nice idea to give a special memento of a visit. If people ask me about distillery tours I advise them that: 1) All tours are 80% the same 2) There is almost always SOMETHING unique to each tour - either about the process or just as interestingly, about the history of the distillery 3) If you have a keen interest in whisky, doing any tour is usually worth it because you'll pick up a few snippets of interesting information 4) If you've only got a mild interest and you've done any tour in the past, you're probably not going to get much out of doing another one somewhere else Springbank would break this rule - anyone who has any interest in whisky should do the tour, regardless of whether they've done others in the past and if you're only going to do one tour - do this one (or maybe Balvenie, but really you shuld do both!) I am very much looking forward to returning if/when the world is ever a bit more normal and some of their other experiences are available again…

Did both the Springbank and Glengyle Tours. Our tour guide Ben was brilliant, very knowledgable and friendly. Amazing value at just £10 per tour pp and would recommend to whisky lovers and those who are just interested in learning about the process and history of Campbeltown Managed to grab a very special single cask bottling from the Cage too :)…

Springbank is a dram I'd never tried, but it's quite different to many others. The operation is a small family, not swallowed up by the big boys. The tour is quite different to others. They do the malting and bottling onsite and store the whisky there too. A unique tour and a very good range of products. The onsite hand pours allow you to buy nice sample bottles and it's worth picking up a couple of bottles in the shop, you won't find them in Tesco's. Best distillery tour I've ever done.…
