Overview
More
Auchindrain is the only surviving example of a Highland Farm Township that was not abandoned or modernised, and is now preserved as a museum and run by an independent charity. The 21 acre site offers visitors a fascinating insight into life and work in the past. Auchindrain is a conservation project in progress, and we pride ourselves on being true to history. We're not a theme park or a glitzy commercial attraction. If you don't like the idea of gritty realism please don't visit us and then leave a bad review because we're not something we don't claim to be.

Had the opportunity to visit in early May. What a treat. The grounds are well preserved. You would swear that the former tenants had just stepped out for a moment. The self-guided tablet was a terrific way to know the stories and learn the history....More

This is a truly fascinating place. Not only do you have the historical side of the township (totally un-modernised), but the township involves people from the local community who either want to learn eco skills, or want to feel part of something. The township itself...More

visited with my daughter on a Sunday afternoon, weather was kind. Location is stunning, I can well understand folk of the past choosing this location to settle down. Cottages and barns give an authentic view into how little in the way of personal belongings crofters...More

What a lovely find, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the use of the tablet was great. Very easy to use. Exhibits were very interesting and more true to life than a lot of other museums..
