Kathy gave us a superb day tour to Campbeltown via Carradale during our recent stay in Inveraray. Her commentary and local knowledge added so much to our enjoyment of the trip that we wished we could have spent longer with her. I would highly recommend her services as a tour guide.…

My sister, brother-in-law and I just got back from a 10-day tour of the Scottish Highlands with Kathy as our driver guide. The primary focus of our trip was to visit ancestral sites of our clan, get a flavor of the country and maybe see some locations where Outlander films (my favorite show). Kathy more than exceeded our expectations and gave us a tour we will never forget. For many months prior to the trip I worked with Kathy to create our itinerary. She acted as our travel agent booking charming B&B's (guest houses) that offered big breakfasts and lodging for three. We toured Edinburgh on our own and then Kathy picked us up for the rest of the tour. She was fantastic - fun, knowledgeable and relentless in providing us a variety of activities based on our interests. Since we were in a smaller car, we frequently drove off the beaten path where the scenery was stunning. We saw castles, distilleries, a sheep dog demonstration, a festival with pipers, multiple lochs and islands, Culloden Moor and standing stones. We saw the locations where our ancestors lived and rode the Jacobite Steam Train (aka: Hogwart's Express). We also visited the Highland Folk Museum and Doune Castle, both featured in Outlander. There is really no better way to see the Highlands of Scotland than to engage a tour guide driver. The roadways are often narrow and it's hard to judge distances between locations. If you're an American and think it might be fun to drive on the other side of the road, this is NOT the place to do it. With Kathy as our guide we were able to visit so many places and enjoy a customized holiday - well worth every penny. The Highlands of Scotland are more beautiful and green that I ever imagined. One caution, if you're going to Scotland, prepare for all kinds of weather. We had sun, rain, wind and fog, frequently within an hour's time. When people were sweltering in London, we were bundled up. We didn't let the weather get in the way of an amazing trip. We have Kathy to thank for it. Slainte!…

We had a great day out from Oban to Glen Coe and back with Kathy back in July. She really knows her stuff and also knows the back roads. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend her services!

We were fortunate enough to have hired Kathy Cameron as our driver/guide for 5 days in Scotland. We didn't know anyone who had met her, so we relied on internet information. What a find. Kathy was prompt, efficient, and pleasant. Most important, she is an excellent driver. (Trust me: those one-lane roads in the countryside can be pretty harrowing.) Also, she knows Scotland. On our way to a previously booked ferry, we learned that the road we were to take was closed because of a traffic accident. Kathy was able to reroute us so that we arrived for the ferry on time. Haha--little did we know that the ferry was 2 hours late. This brings me to another of Kathy's assets: she will always cover your back. We had bought our ferry passage by telephone. When we arrived to pick up the tickets, our names appeared in the computer and we were told we were all set. While we were browsing in a nearby shop, Kathy checked on our tickets. In all the confusion with the delayed ferry, the clerk had ditched our tickets! Kathy set him straight, ensuring that we were the first car on the ferry when it did finally arrive. She went above and beyond her duties. One of us has trouble walking, and she frequently offered to drive us to or from a restaurant even after we had said our goodbyes for the evening. She knows her stuff. There was little time during our journey with Kathy that she wasn't explaining the history of a place, the geologic reason for a stone formation, or local lore. Also, she's an avid fiddler who studies and plays Scottish folk music, so she can steer you (tee hee) in the direction of live music and, if you like, will play CDs--or even sing! Here's the bottom line: she's a good driver, a knowledgeable guide, and an extremely pleasant woman. [Much of this review is contrasted with our experience with another guide in another country, who was funny and pleasant but not very knowledgeable.]…
