About
Hawick Museum is now closed for the season. We look forward to welcoming you back when we reopen on 1 March 2024. Discover a town’s treasures in an historic house in beautiful parkland. Hawick Museum is home to objects and artworks that are not just about Hawick, but a window on the world. There is always something new to see with a lively programme of changing art and museum exhibitions throughout the year. The Jimmie Guthrie and Steve Hislop exhibitions showcase the lives of Hawick’s two tragic motorcycle champions. The newly-refurbished War Memorial Room reveals the stories of Hawick’s people in Britain’s wars with military memorabilia, wartime souvenirs and audio-visuals. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Enjoyed our visit very much. Hadn’t been since I was a child and had vague memories of a two headed sheep and was amazed when it was still there! The two motorcyclist exhibitions were very interesting. Toilets are available and a little gift shop. It is free but donations are welcome. The gardens are very nice to walk through and there is a lovely cafe.

A great museum in a gorgeous park. Full of the social history of the town and great tributes to local heroes. There is a wee schoolroom and an amazing dolls' house- loved the miniature books and polar bear rug!

This is a must visit, situated in the beautiful Wilton Lodge Park. There is a large number of interesting exhibits from fine antiques to Egyptian treasures. Hawick's story is here and all free. Children will love the old school room. The surrounding park is a good place for your picnic. Dogs are not allowed in the museum. There is a beautiful waterfall behind the house.

This is a nice compact museum with a broad spread of items from old motorbikes to two world wars and lots of art.

Well worth a visit.

Parking is on the street outside the park where the museum in and accessed via a set of wooden steps. There is disabled parking beside the museum which is accessed by a very narrow road.

I visited Hawick Museum today and it's an excellent free museum in the beautiful Wilton Lodge Park. The room devoted to Stevie Hislop, two time British Superbikes champion, is a must see for all motorcyling fans: it feature's three of Hislop's bikes, his leathers, trophies and newspaper cuttings about his riding career. Also on the first floor is another room devoted to Hawick's other motorcyling legend, Jimmy Guthrie, from the 1930s, including a beautifully restored Norton he rode.

Other excellent features at the museum are a 1930s classroom, an exhibition about Hawick's role in the Boer War and the Two World Wars, three art and photograph galleries and household implements from the 19th century onwards. A good museum that gives visitors an excellent insight into the history of Hawick, I'd recommend the museum to any visitor to the town who has an hour or two to spare.

Very interesting building. 2 rooms are dedicated to local motor cyclists. 1 room is picture art which I don’t have the eye for lol. Plenty of stuff for kids to enjoy. For a free attraction it is worth visiting
