Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It used to be peaceful walking here. Now it's overrun by gypsy s and their 100 white vans/cars/dogs.

The local business clown Mulraney has allowed the travellers to set up camp at the old water works. He really is a disgrace to the local community.

Parking is easy enough at the Visitor centre, once you've negotiated all the speed bumps on the access road. The lake circular walk is a tranquil easy 3-mile flat circuit of the lake, with a path just good enough to take a mobility scooter. There are plenty of waterfowl of various sorts - I saw a bevy of swans near the Visitor Centre, (perhaps even a lamentation of them?) as they were so noisy! See the third photo.
The downside to the walk is that the very pleasant views of the lake itself and the Ochil hills just above the country park are limited. Most of the lochside path is lined with trees that obscure a scenic view. Watch out for the occasional gaps where you can get a good view of the hills. See photo 1.
The path is narrower, a bit rougher and more stony on the eastern side near the wee farmhouse. The ploughed field in the second photo is presumably the work of that farmer, or his wife.
There are also a number of marked paths leading off into the woodland from the main lochside circuit, but I didn't explore these. It's a pleasant enough way to spend an hour or two. I did the walk all round in an hour and 15 minutes.

I’ve been visiting this place for nearly 40 years as boy and man. Still great for a 3 mile walk around with the dog, at whatever pace you like.
Nice cafe there now too, for you to relax or takeaway a cuppa and a cake!

Lovely place for a walk. It's 3 miles all the way around. We visited the sunken garden which is very overgrown and wild but discovered some beautiful flower varieties. Lots of ducks and swans to see. Didn't visit cafe but looked nice and very handy after a walk. Car park available with disabled spaces.

Not far to go for a walk in the country and beside the water. Like minded people so it is always a pleasent walk especially when other walkers say good morning or pass a friendly comment.

Gartmorn Dam is a wonderful place to get 'lost' from the daily stress. You can spend hours walking around. The walk around the dam takes you around 1 hour and is easy even for a wheelchair or children on the bike. There is plenty of spots to stop by and sit and enjoy a view of Ochils.

You will meet runners, walkers, people with dogs (like me), people with children. At the end of the walk, you can sit and enjoy a cuppa in the new cafe which is located in the old visitor centre. The cafe offers indoor and outdoor seating, even parking for your horse and dog.
There is plenty of space to park your car and the car park is free.

There is plenty of geocaching spots too, which makes your walk with children even more excitable. Watching birds, swans, ducks, geese live at Gartmorn all year round and especially during summertime.

During rainy days I like to get 'lost' in the woods ... many of the pathways which will take you away from the dam.
I always use my geocache map :) but if you prefer paper, on the internet ( you can find the walking map by Ramblers Scotland.

Did you know that Gartmorn Dam is Scotland's oldest reservoir?

Excellent 1 hour / 5km walk round the Loch. Good pathways - puddly and mucky after days of rain (would’ve worn wellies or walking boots if I knew) 🥾
Excellent for dogs, lots of spots to swim or paddle 🐾
Path size varies to being wide or 1 person at a time in places
Popular with cyclists and runners
A part of the path goes passed a farm road with vehicle access so beware of this 🚸
Well signposted on path routes
Not any benches only natural wood or trees fallen to sit on if needed
Free parking
Great cafe at the end ‘dam good coffee’ with excellent cakes! 🍰
