About
This bold medieval keep may look forbidding, but inside it’s full of art and riches – not to mention intriguing tales. The tower dates back to the 14th century and was built to guard a strategically important ferry crossing on the nearby River Forth.

We were lucky enough to visit at a very quiet time of year and had a guide all to ourselves, it’s one of the few towers open to the public and not boarded up, it has a wonderful marble staircase introduced in the 16th or...More

Very worthwhile visit to Alloa Tower recently. Our group were shown around the historic building and given a great narrative on its history and that of the Erskine family. Very worthwhile and interesting .

As National Trust members, we knew this wasn't far from Bannockburn and that we'd get there before closing, so why not. It was 4:05 PM, and although they closed at 5, the sign on the door said last admittance was 4:00 PM. Thankfully, they let...More

Thank you for your review and regarding your comment about it would be more fitting for the Name Erskine to visit, we actually get very few visitors with that surname. Alloa tower is arguably one of the tallest and largest of the tower house's in...More

Alloa tower is a good example of a Scottish tower house with some furnishings appropriate to the period. It is interesting but quite a small property in an urban setting.

The Alloa Tower is probably the best Tower to visit on the tower trail. There are several floors to explore and a rooftop terrace with extensive views. The minstrel's gallery and the high vaulted ceiling are particularly interesting

Check opening times before visiting. Allow an hour to walk around this cleverly modified building. If you have time the knowledgeable staff will give you in- depth historical information about the former occupiers. Recommended.
