Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I should have researched more thoroughly as had l known they expected 4000 folk to attend l wouldn't have bothered going. Not keen on crowds and very crowded it was. Traipsed around the paths in a slow crocodile. Folk were clambering everywhere. Tea room overflowing. Did not enjoy. Would not recommend. Please note it's only open one day a year in aid of charity.

This garden is only open to the public once a year and so is very busy when it is open. This year it has been organised better than ever before and the garden is looking immaculate under the management of a new head gardener couple. If you get the chance to go then you should take it, it is unique and mesmerising.

It was very interesting and understandably busy. Well organised by Max and Jenny. Loved the bluebell woods and the buttocks pointing towards a wind farm was ironic!
Thank you.

We were very lucky to get tickets for this garden which opens only once a year. It is really unique, like an outdoor abstract art exhibition. I'm not an abstract art fan usually but this garden is beautifully done and you can spend hours wandering about the different areas of the garden. Well worth a visit.

If you get the chance to visit these spectacular and unusual gardens go for it. Been wanting to go for years but I always missed the opening weekend. Finally got there last year. We even had a glorious sunny day. Sculptures, grassy buttocks, mechanical water features, it's an open air gallery. Very well organized , lots of parking and kids go free.

It’s such a shame this is only open once a year. A wonderful place with endless sculptures, gardens, views and a sense of peace.

The once a year open day is a great opportunity to admire the inspiring work of Charles Jencks. The surprises are plentiful in the inspired shapes and designs he has created here.

Our best friend had been begging for us to go to The Garden of Cosmic Speculation, the once-a-year event held in Dumfries and Galloway, for 3 years. This year, we finally agreed to go.

It was fine?

Pros:

• it was a lovely, sunny day
• we brought a picnic and ate it on the grass
• there were some genuinely beautiful sights - especially the waterfall

Cons:

• some of the attractions were odd rather than interesting - giant grassy buttocks, anyone?
• rather then being able to openly explore, there were set routes that you had to take and areas that were cordoned off - again, giant grassy buttocks, anyone?
• parking was a nightmare
• leaving was worse as the ground had gone to mud and several cars & vans ended up wheelspinning and showering everything in muck
• it was very busy, and almost claustrophobic in places

It was fine. Realistically, all of the pros could have been ticked off with a nice day at the park without having to spend money on a ticket.

It’s maybe worth going once just to say you’ve done it but it isn’t worth a return visit.

Managed to get here early and saw much of the stunning garden before the crowds appeared. The garden is incredible and is well worth the effort it takes to visit, plus the money goes to Maggies. A little more of an explanation of the art forms would be fantastic as I found myself wondering what I was looking at.
